Homemade Caramel Sauce

It is so easy to learn how to make caramel sauce. This is seriously so decadent and creamy. Spoon this over ice cream, apple pie, fruit and more!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups light brown sugar packed
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup 1 stick unsalted butter
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the packed brown sugar, heavy whipping cream, unsalted butter, and salt.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Once boiling, continue cooking and stirring constantly for 5–7 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Let the sauce cool slightly before transferring it to a jar or airtight container.
  • Serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
  • To reheat, transfer the desired amount to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then continue heating in 10-second intervals until warmed through.
