Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions

  • Grease a large cookie sheet (with sides). Set aside.
  • In a 2-quart saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup light corn syrup, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 cup water. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture comes to a boil.
  • Stir in 1 cup peanuts. Place a candy thermometer in the saucepan.
  • Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the mixture reaches 300°F.
  • Remove from heat and immediately stir in 2 tablespoons butter and 1 teaspoon baking soda.
  • Pour the mixture at once onto the prepared cookie sheet. Carefully spread by gently tilting the pan back and forth until evenly distributed.
  • Allow to cool completely, then break into pieces.
