With just a few ingredients, Butter Cookies Recipe comes together quickly for a tasty and gorgeous treat. Easy butter cookies are pretty enough for a cookie exchange but easy enough to make any day of the week.
In a stand mixer bowl, cream together 1 cup softened unsalted butter, 2/3 cup granulated sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt until well combined and fluffy.
Mix in 2 large egg yolks and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
Add 2 cups all-purpose flour and mix until the dough becomes crumbly.
Stir in 2 teaspoons milk (add 1–2 more teaspoons if needed for a softer, pipeable consistency). Transfer dough to a 16-inch piping bag fitted with a large open star tip.
Pipe dough into rounds onto two ungreased baking sheets. If needed, chill piped cookies for 30 minutes to prevent spreading.
Bake one sheet at a time for 12–16 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden.
Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Store in an airtight container.
Notes
You can sprinkle them with sprinkles fresh out of the oven, or you can even dip them into white chocolate or regular chocolate and add sprinkles. Lots of options. If I dip them I just hold them and dip so only half is covered.
