Preheat the oven to 350°F. Prepare a 10-inch cast-iron skillet for the cookie dough.
Melt 1 cup butter in the microwave for 15–30 seconds, just until softened or partially melted.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, ¾ cup white sugar, and ¾ cup brown sugar. Mix until well combined.
Add 2 large eggs and 1 tablespoon vanilla extract. Mix until fully incorporated.
Add 2½ cups all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon baking soda. Mix just until the dry ingredients are incorporated. Do not overmix.
Gently fold in 1½ cups milk chocolate chips by hand.
Transfer the cookie dough to the 10-inch cast-iron skillet. Spread the dough evenly across the skillet.
Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set but still slightly soft.
Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
