Ingredients

  • 1 box Chocolate Cake Mix 15 ounces
  • 1 1/4 cups Water
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 1 container Chocolate Frosting 15 ounces
  • 1 container Vanilla Frosting
  • Green Food Coloring

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and spray an 8 inch or 9 inch round pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the cake mix, water, vegetable oil and 3 large eggs.
  • Pour half of the batter into the round pan.  You can save the remaining batter or make cupcakes or a 2nd cake out of it!
  • Bake for 22-28 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool completely at room temperature on a wire rack.
  • Carefully remove the cake from the pan and level the top of the cake with a serrated knife.
  • Remove a 1 inch strip out of the center of the cake.  To do this, find the center of the cake.  Slice the cake approximately 1/2 inch above and below the center of the cake to make 2 semi-circles of the cake.
  • Place the semicircles of the cake on a serving platter and gently push them together to form a football shape.
  • Frosting the cake with the chocolate frosting.
  • Place some of the vanilla frosting in a pastry bag fitting with a round tip.
  • Pipe the laces and other decorations on top of the cake.
  • Dye the remaining vanilla frosting green with the food coloring.
  • Then pipe the green frosting around the outside of the cake with a grass tip to look like grass around the football.
  • Then the cake is ready to serve and enjoy!

Notes

Store the leftover cake, covered, at room temperature for up to 4-5 days.
