My kids go crazy over Nutella and these Nutella Cookies are a family favorite. I have been making these for years along with ​​Nutella Dip and Nutella Cheesecake.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Nutella Cookies - flour, baking soda, butter, brown sugar, Nutella, vanilla, egg, chocolate chips.
  • All Purpose Flour. Spoon the flour into the measuring cup instead of scooping it. This will make it more accurate.

  • Unsalted Butter. Softened to room temperature.

  • Nutella Spread. The star of the recipe!
  • Vanilla Extract. Use pure vanilla for the best flavor.
  • Egg. Large egg at room temperature.
  • Chocolate Chips. Use a good quality chocolate.

Variations

  • Sea Salt. Sprinkle sea salt on the cookies before baking to add a salty and sweet combination.
  • Chocolate drizzle. For extra chocolate flavor, drizzle baked cookies with chocolate.
  • Top with more chocolate chips. When the cookies come out of the oven, press a few chocolate chips into the cookies.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1. Use a large mixing bowl and whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Then set this aside for later.

Step 2. Use a separate bowl and beat together the butter with the brown sugar and granulated sugar. You can use either a hand mixer or stand mixer until combined.

Step 3. Next, add the egg, Nutella and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.

Step 4. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the butter mixture. Use low speed until the flour mixture is just combined.

Step 5. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula. Don’t overmix the cookies.

Step 6. Fold in the chocolate chips. Then cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours.

Step 7. Finally, drop the cookie dough onto baking sheets.

Step 8. I like to use a cookie scoop about the size of 1.5 tablespoon amount.

Step 9. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes. The top of the cookies should look set.

Step 10. Finally, cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes and then move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

Storage

Store the leftover cookies in an airtight container for up to 1 week.  Keep a piece of bread in the container with the cookies to keep the cookies soft.

  • Check the date. For the best baking results, make sure that all of the ingredients are not expired.
  • Allow to cool on wire rack before serving. The cookies need time to set before enjoying.

What is Nutella?

It is a chocolate spread made with hazelnut. This Italian spread is rich and creamy. You can use other brands of chocolate-hazelnut spread but I prefer Nutella brand.

Can I make this recipe in advance?

Yes, the cookies are easy to make in advance. Prepare the dough as normal. Cover and refrigerate until you are ready to make the cookies. Then scoop and bake.

Is this recipe freezer friendly?

This recipe is easy to freeze. You can freeze the dough and then thaw and bake.

Another option is to freeze the baked cookies. Place inside a freezer container and separate the cookies with parchment paper.
Thaw in the fridge overnight when ready to use.

Instructions

  • Mix in the egg, Nutella and vanilla extract until combined.
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients into the butter mixture on low speed until just combined. Make sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl with a spatula to make sure that all the ingredients are combined.  Be careful not to over mix.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours.
  • When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.  Sit the dough on the countertop to soften while the oven is preheating.
  • Drop the cookie dough onto baking sheets in approximately 1.5 tablespoon amounts.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until the top of the cookies look set.
  • Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes and then move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Then the cookies are ready to serve and enjoy!
