- Chocolate Chips – This cake is delicious with chocolate chips. It adds texture and the combination of strawberry and chocolate is my favorite.
How to Make Strawberry Sheet Cake
- Step 1 – Heat Oven and Prepare Baking dish – First, preheat the oven and go ahead and get your baking cake pan out. We used a 9×13 and you need to spray it with cooking spray.
Step 2. Second, you will need a food processor to puree the strawberries. We have this food processor and it has been so handy. Now, if you do not have one yet, the blender will work just fine. Blend until pureed.
Step 3. Next, mix together the box mix, eggs, jello mixture and vegetable oil in a large bowl. I use my stand mixer but a hand held will work fine too. Once everything is mixed together, stir in the strawberry puree.
Step 4. Finally, pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake. I like to use a toothpick to make sure the cake is done. Just insert into the middle and if it comes out clean, you know it is ready.
Step 5. While the cake is cooling, make the frosting. Beat together the butter, cream cheese and vanilla. Make sure everything is mixed together really good and it’s smooth. Second, gradually add the powdered sugar.
Step 6. Once this is combined, add the strawberry puree. I recommend doing this by hand. If the frosting is not the consistency you like, add a little powdered sugar to make it thicker.
Step 7. Spread the strawberry cream cheese frosting all over the cake layer and enjoy. Make sure it is on a cooled cake.
Recipe Tips
- Strawberries – We used fresh strawberries, but you can use frozen strawberries. Before blending the frozen strawberries, allow the strawberries to thaw. Make sure not to thaw all the way or the strawberries will turn to mush.
- Baking Pan – To prepare the sheet cake, spray the baking pan with cooking spray. This allows for the cake to easily be served and for cleanup.
- Puree Strawberries – We recommend using a food processor to blend the strawberries. But you can also use a blender.
- Cake Mix – This cake is made with a cake mix. You will not add the ingredients on the box. Add the ingredients that are listed in this recipe.
- Checking cake for doneness – To check the cake to see if it is done, use a toothpick. The cake is done when a toothpick is inserted in the center and comes out clean.
- Frosting Cake – Before frosting cake, make sure cake has cooled completely.
- Food coloring – You can add red food coloring to the cake mix if desired but is not necessary.
- Strawberry Cupcakes. This recipe can easily be used to make cupcakes if preferred.
How to Store
Since the cake has cream cheese frosting, it needs to be refrigerated. Cover with foil or plastic wrap. If your pan has a lid, that can also be used.
Can you Freeze Strawberry Sheet Cake?
This cake can also be frozen up to 3 months. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and again with heavy duty foil. When ready to serve, thaw in the fridge overnight.

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 9X13 baking pan with a non stick cooking spray.

- To make the frosting, beat together the butter, cream cheese and vanilla extract with a hand held mixer or stand up mixer until the mixture is combined and smoothed. Then add in the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time mixing well before the addition of each cup. Then stir in 2 Tbsp of the strawberry puree by hand. Note: Add more powdered sugar if the frosting is too thin.
- Spread the frosting over the cake once it has cooled.
what is instant jello in the recipe? is that just regular dry jello?
Yes, it’s the regular dry jello that you purchase in a small box. I find mine in our baking aisle at our local grocery store.
