How to Make Apple Crisp
- Step 1. First, go ahead and preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Also, spray an 8X8 baking pan with cooking spray.

Step 2. Second, you will need a large bowl. In the bowl combine the apples, sugar, lemon juice, and part of the cinnamon to the bowl. Make sure to mix everything thoroughly so that you coat all of the apple slices.

Step 3. Next, add the apple mixture into the baking pan.

Step 4. You will need a separate mixing bowl. Add the brown sugar, oats, flour, salt, and cinnamon and combine.

Step 5. Then cut the cold butter into the mixture.

Step 6. If you have a pastry cutter, it works great for this. If not, use 2 forks to combine the mixture.

Step 7. Finally, sprinkle the crumbly topping over the apples in the baking dish and bake.

Step 8. You want the mixture to be bubbly and the topping golden brown.

Step 9. Serve warm topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Pro Tips
- Use Real Butter – Make sure to use real butter. It delivers a rich and the topping just tastes better. Also, resist the urge to add more butter. Too much butter in the topping can result in it being very greasy.
- Do not use melted butter – I have tried it both ways and I feel like using cold butter works better when mixing up the apple crisp topping.
- Use Unsalted Butter – Normally when baking, you will make sure not to use salted butter. Keep unsalted butter in the fridge for any baking needs.
- Try different Apples – We used Golden delicious apples but if you prefer a tart apple, try using Granny Smith apples. Both are delicious and you can use the type you prefer.
- You do not have to peel the apples – I prefer to peel the apples for most of my apple dessert recipes, but you don’t have to. They are still
Toppings
- This is amazing with a scoop of No Churn Vanilla Ice Cream. The cold ice cream melts into the warm apple crisp.
- Top with whipped cream for another great idea.
- Plus, a generous drizzle of caramel sauce.

Storage
You can store the leftovers for easy future desserts. Allow the apple crisp to come to room temperature. Then store in an air-tight container in a refrigerator.
You can also cover with aluminum foil. It will stay fresh for up to 5 days. You can microwave or heat in the oven when reheating.
Can You Freeze This Recipe?
You can freeze an apple crisp that’s already been baked. First, allow it to cool completely to room temperature. Then cover tightly with plastic wrap and foil. You can freeze for up to 3 months.
When ready to bake, thaw in the refrigerator and then bake in 350F oven until completely warmed through.
This is great to do when you are making it for a party or a holiday.
You can do all the work ahead of time and freeze. Then just throw the apple crisp in the oven on the day of the party or holiday.
