What is sweetened condensed milk?

It consists of concentrated cow’s milk and sweetened with sugar. It is very sweet, thick and delicious in this pie.

The consistency of this makes the pie so wonderful and has the best texture.

Canned Pumpkin vs Fresh Pumpkin

We recommend canned pumpkin puree for this recipe. Fresh pumpkin puree can be watery and make the filling runny.

The texture and consistency of canned pumpkin gives this pie the perfect results. It is the best pumpkin pie with so much flavor.

Recipe Tips

  • Pumpkin Pie Spice. You can substitute pumpkin pie spice in this recipe if desired. We have an easy recipe for homemade pumpkin pie spice that will save you money.
  • Streusel Topping. If you love streusel, consider topping the pie before baking with streusel topping. The coarse crumbs bake perfectly.
  • Top with whipped cream. Whipped cream on top is a must for us. If you love it too, make sure to serve each slice with lots of whipped cream. Homemade whipped cream is really easy to make. Sprinkle cloves or cinnamon on top.
  • Homemade Pie Crust. Feel free to swap the store bought pie crust for homemade crust if you prefer.
  • Beat the eggs before adding to the mixture. Slightly beat the eggs before adding them to the mixture. This will help them to blend better with the ingredients.
  • Don’t over mix the pie filling ingredients. Mix until just combined or the filling might crack while baking.
  • Chocolate. You can drizzle chocolate glaze on each serving size or melt semi-sweet chocolate chips in a small saucepan.
