Find the entire ingredient list at the bottom of the page.

Variations

  • Mix-ins. The cookies have a ton of flavor, so this is optional. If you are feeling decadent, add chocolate chips, sprinkles or anything you like to the dough.
  • Jello. You can use sugar free jello mix if you prefer.
  • Cut out cookies. Instead of making cookie dough balls, roll out the dough and use cookie cutters. The kids can choose different shapes for holidays and special occasions.

Step By Step Instructions

  • Step 1. Preheat the oven. Set the oven to 350 degrees F.
Butter and sugar creamed in a bowl.

Step 2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter with the sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.  Then add in the eggs (1 at a time) and the vanilla extract.

Flour mixture added to butter mixture and combined.

Step 3. Get out a separate large bowl. Whisk together the flour, baking powder and baking soda. Then stir the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until a dough is formed.

Step 7. Let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.  Then move them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Storage

Store the leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.  Keep a slice of bread in the container for the cookies to keep them moist.

This little trick does wonders to keep the cookies fresh. They will taste like you just baked them and stay so soft.

How to Freeze?

Freeze the cookie dough balls prior to baking. Flash freeze them for 1 to 2 hours on a baking sheet. Then place inside a freezer container up to 2 months.

You will need to add 1 to 2 minutes to the baking time if frozen. We also suggest placing parchment paper in between the cookies. This will help them from sticking together. Learn How to Freeze Cookie Dough.

Another option is to freeze the cookies already baked. Place them into a freezer safe container or bag. Separate the layers of cookies with parchment paper.

Make sure to allow the cookies to cool completely before storing. When ready to enjoy, allow to thaw overnight in the fridge.

Pro Tips

  • Cookie Scoops. We love to use cookie scoops to form the balls. It makes each cookie the same size which helps them to bake evenly. This also helps to shape dough very quickly into 1-inch balls.
  • Don’t overbake the cookies. The edges should be barely golden brown and tops should appear dry.
  • Line the baking pan. Place parchment paper on the baking sheet to make cleanup easy. You can also use a silicone baking mat.
  • Allow to set. The cookies need to set on the baking rack for 5 minutes prior to moving to the cooling rack. This will ensure the cookies have time to set and do not fall apart.
  • Softened butter. For best results, the butter should be softened prior to mixing. Not only will it combine easier but it the dough will be smoother.
