Variation Lemon Bars

  • Lemon Zest – To enhance the Lemon flavor, you can add in some lemon zest to the batter.
  • Fun Shapes – If you want to add some fun designs on top, place your cookie cutter on the top of the cake, then sprinkle with powdered sugar. The kids will love the fun designs.
  • Change the Pie Filling – You can use different pie filling. We recommend Key Lime Pie filling or Pineapple Pie Filling.

FAQs

Can you freeze lemon bars?

Yes, you can freeze these lemon bars to enjoy leftovers later. Once the lemon bars have cooled completely, cut into bars. Then wrap them in plastic wrap and store in a freezer bag. We recommend putting a piece of wax paper in between the layers for storage.

How do I know when the Lemon Bars are done:

We like to use the toothpick method to ensure that the lemon bars are done. After inserting the toothpick in the cake, if it comes out clean then it done.

Make sure that you do not overcook the bars. They can become dry and crumbly.

Put the lemon bars in an airtight container to store them for later. I like to put them in the refrigerator. The bars are best served within a day or two of baking.

    Hello,
My question to you is about the 2 ingredient Lemon Bars. I see you made the lemon pudding and added it to the angelfood cake. My question to you is do I follow the instructions on the cake mix the add the made lemon pudding?

  4. Jo says:

    Carrie,
Do you use the angel food cake mix that says just add water or the one that needs eggs added.
Your recipe for pineapple angel food cake and the strawberry angel food cake says to use the kind that you just add water?
I have the same question if I also try the one using lemon cake mix instead of the angel food cake mix.
Hope I hear from you soon, I’d like to make this for Easter dessert.
    Thank you

    1. Carrie Barnard says:

I used the angel food cake mix that just needs water only for the mix. I have not tested this recipe with a lemon cake mix yet so I’m not sure how that would work. I hope you enjoy the recipe.
