Tips for Coring an Apple

Cut out the center of the apple using a small paring knife or apple corer. Be very careful that you do not go all the way to the bottom. This will cause the filling to leak out and not be as pretty.

Toppings

  • Ice Cream. We love No Churn Vanilla Ice Cream, butter pecan and caramel swirl on top of the apples.
  • Caramel Sauce. Drizzle caramel sauce on top of each serving. It is so decadent. You can use store bought or homemade caramel sauce.
  • Whipped Cream. Dollop whipped cream on the apples. We love this easy homemade whipped cream.
  • Chopped Nuts. Sprinkle nuts on top when serving. Some ideas include pecans, peanuts, walnuts or anything you love.

Storage

Refrigerate the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days. They will get soggy the longer they sit so it’s best to eat these within the suggested time frame.

Best Apples for Baked Apples

  • Rome Beauties. Red and not too sweet with a hint of tartness.
  • Granny Smith. Green and tart to balance out the sweetness of the filling.
  • Honeycrisp
  • Pink Lady
  • Golden Delicious. This variety is yellow and sweet.
  • Gala. This variety is sweeter so you may need to reduce the sugar in the filling so it is not overly sweet.
