Step By Step Instructions

  • Step 1. Go ahead and preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then spray a donut pan with a non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2. Combine together the cake mix, egg, vegetable and milk in a large bowl with an electric mixer.

Batter piped into donut pan.

Step 3. Next, pour the mixture evenly into the donut pan. Only fill each one about halfway full. I like to use a piping bag to fill the donut pan. You can also place the batter in a large ziplock bag and cut the corner off the bag to pipe the batter into the pan.

Step 4. Allow the donuts to bake for 10-13 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of the donuts comes out clean.  They need to cool in the pan for 5 minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Step 5. In 2 separate bowls, whisk together the simple glaze ingredients and the chocolate glaze ingredients. Once the donuts have cooled, dip half of the doughnuts in the vanilla glaze and dip the other half of the donuts in the chocolate glaze. Then top with the rainbow sprinkles if desired.

  • Step 6. Let the donuts cool to allow the glaze to set for approximately 30 minutes before serving.

Storage

Room Temperature โ€“ Keep in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Refrigerator โ€“ Store in a sealed container for up to 5 days; bring to room temperature before serving.

Freezer โ€“ Wrap individually in plastic wrap or foil and place in a freezer-safe bag for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight at room temperature or warm slightly in the oven.

Pro Tips

  • Use a nonstick donut pan โ€“ Ensures easy release and keeps the donuts intact.
  • Donโ€™t overfill โ€“ Fill each mold about halfway full to prevent spilling while baking.
  • Cool before glazing โ€“ Let donuts cool completely so the glaze sets properly.
  • Customize toppings โ€“ Add sprinkles, crushed nuts, or shredded coconut for extra flavor and texture.
  • Adjust glaze consistency โ€“ Add more milk to thin or more powdered sugar to thicken for the perfect coating.

  • Mix together the cake mix, egg, vegetable and milk with a hand held mixer or stand up mixer until well combined.
  • Pour the mixture evenly into the donut pan filling each one about halfway full. I find that itโ€™s easiest to use a piping bag to fill the donut pan or place the batter in a large ziplock bag and cut the corner off the bag to pipe the batter into the pan.

  • Dip half the cooled doughnuts in the vanilla glaze and dip the other half of the donuts in the chocolate glaze covering about half of the donuts. Then top with the sprinkles at this time.
  • Let the donuts cool (so the glaze can set) for approximately 30 minutes before serving.
  • Then enjoy!
