How to make Slow cooker chocolate lava cake
Step 1. First, get out a large bowl. Combine the chocolate cake mix, oil, eggs, and milk and beat with an electric mixer until the batter is smooth. Don’t over mix the batter.
Step 2. Next, spray the slow cooker with cooking spray so the cake won’t stick. Then pour the cake batter into the slow cooker. Use a spatula to smooth over the bottom as evenly as possible.
Step 3. Get out another bowl. Mix together the milk and pudding mix. Pour this pudding mixture over the top. Do not stir.
Step 4. Finally, sprinkle chocolate chips over the top without stirring. You want each of these layers to be separate.
Step 5. Cover and cook on high for 3 to 4 hours. The top should be set but still slightly wiggly.
Step 6. Serve warm and enjoy. I like to serve it with ice cream.
Toppings
- No Churn Vanilla Ice Cream. Top the warm cake with ice cream. It will melt into the cake for a decadent treat. Other flavors to try include: chocolate for even more chocolate flavor, Fudge royal, Caramel and more.
- Whipped Cream. Put a dollop of whipped cream on top of the cake. This is so amazing.
- Chocolate Sauce. Drizzle chocolate on top for even more chocolate flavor.
- Caramel Sauce. Add a little caramel to make this even more delicious. I think it would be yummy to combine chocolate and caramel sauce on top.

Pro Tips
- Don’t mix the layers before baking. You want the cake layer to be separate from the chocolate lava topping. It is really important that you do not mix these together.
- Slow cookers can vary so it is a good idea to keep an eye on the cake. You don’t want to overbake it because it will not be fudgy and gooey. Keep an eye on the edges as it cooks.
- Keep the lid on. Don’t continuously open the lid because it will allow heat to escape. This in turn prevents the cake from cooking evenly.
