Why make pecan pie in a slow cooker?

It is an effortless way to make pecan pie without using the oven. Sometimes you do not want to heat up the kitchen and the slow cooker is a great alternative.

Or you might need extra oven space during the holidays. Utilizing the slow cooker is a great way to free up the oven.

If you have never thought about using the crock pot to make a pecan pie, it is so convenient.

Ingredients for Crock pot pecan pie.

Ingredients:

  • Refrigerated Pie Crust
  • Eggs, lightly beaten
  • Light or dark corn syrup
  • Packed light brown sugar
  • Butter, melted
  • Vanilla extract
  • Pecan halves

How to make pecan pie in a crock pot

  • Prepare the crock pot. Line a 6 quart slow cooker with a slow cooker liner (not an oven liner). You can also spray the liner with cooking spray.
  • Put the pie crust in the bottom. Then place the pie crust into the bottom of the slow cooker. Press down on the bottom of the crock pot and around the sides so that it fits the bottom of your crock pot.
  • Get out a large mixing bowl. In a large bowl, combine eggs, corn syrup, sugar, butter and vanilla until well blended. Stir in pecans.
  • Pour the pecan pie filling into the crust. Pour the mixture into the crock pot on top of the crust (do not go over the crust).
  • Cover and cook on high for 3 hours.  Then turn the crock pot off and take the lid off. Let it sit for at least 1 hour to set.
  • Remove from the liner. Then carefully remove the pie by lifting the crock pot liner out of the crock pot.  Then the pie is ready to cut, serve and enjoy!

Toppings for pecan pie:

  • Whipped Cream
  • Vanilla Ice Cream
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Caramel Sauce

The pie is delicious served alone but these toppings really take it up a level. Feel free to choose one or several toppings for your slice of pie.

It is so yummy.

Crock pot pecan pie tips

  • Allow to set. You have to let the pie sit for at least 1 hour or it will fall apart when removing it from the crock pot. This is very important so make sure to not skip this step!
  • Use Crock Pot liners. This pie is very sticky and messy. You need to use liners and clean up will be a breeze. It also makes it easy to life out to cut.

Do you have to refrigerate a Pecan Pie?

Yes, refrigerate any leftover pie in an airtight container. It will last up to 5 days.

We love this pie and eat it pretty fast though. Ours never seems to last that long around here.

Can you freeze this pecan pie recipe?

Yes, this pie is easy to freeze. Allow it to cool completely and then freeze.

I suggest using parchment paper on top of the pie and then plastic wrap. Wrap again in foil or place inside a freezer container or bag.

You can freeze this in slices or the entire pie.

Variations for Crockpot Pecan Pie:

  • Homemade Pie Crust. We used a store-bought pie crust but you can use a homemade one if you prefer.
  • Almonds. Substitute a different type of nuts for the pecans. It is so tasty and a great change in flavor.
  • Chocolate. The combination of chocolate and pecans makes a great pie. Toss a handful of chocolate chips into the pecan mixture before baking.

What is a substitute for corn syrup in Pecan Pie?

Maple Syrup is a good substitute for corn syrup in this pie. For a sweet option, try using cane syrup.
