Variations

  • Chocolate Covered Marshmallows. Substitute melted chocolate chips for the candy melts if desired. You can use melted white chocolate and food coloring or Belgian extra dark chocolate for other creations.
  • Sprinkles. Instead of making faces, dip into melted candy. Then roll in Halloween sprinkles. This is another fun option to try with purple sprinkles, orange, black, round green sprinkle, unicorn horn sprinkles and more.
  • Candy Coating. Switch out the candy color to make these for any season or holiday. They are so much fun to make for Christmas and more.
  • Let kids make their own creature. This fun recipe can easily be modified for kids to make their own monsters with warts and mini chocolate chip ears.
  • Straw. Instead of lollipop sticks, use a festive straw instead.
  • Mummies. Dip into white candy melts and drizzle more on top to make a mummy.

Expert Tips

  • Melt Candy Melts Slowly: Melt the candy in 20-second increments, stirring between each one. This helps prevent burning or overheating, since microwave temperatures can vary.
  • Use a Deep Bowl for Dipping: A deeper bowl makes it easier to fully coat the marshmallows in the candy melts without making a mess.
  • Remove Excess Coating: After dipping, gently tap the marshmallow on the side of the bowl or scrape the bottom lightly to remove excess chocolate for a smooth, even finish.
  • Decorate Quickly: Candy melts harden fast, so add sprinkles, candy eyes, or other decorations right after dipping.
  • Let Them Set Properly: Place dipped marshmallows on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow them to set completely before handling or wrapping.
  • Wrap Individually: Once dry, wrap each marshmallow in cellophane and tie with festive ribbon. Perfect for party favors, gifts, or trick-or-treat bags.
  • Get Creative: Mix and match candy melt colors and decorations to make ghosts, pumpkins, Frankenstein faces, or mummies!

Storage

Room Temperature: Store Halloween Marshmallows in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Keep them in a cool, dry place away from heat or sunlight so the candy coating doesn’t melt.

Refrigeration: You can store in the refrigerator if your kitchen is warm but allow them to come to room temperature before serving for the best texture.

Freezing: Freezing is not recommended, as marshmallows can become sticky once thawed.

Make Ahead: These treats are great for preparing a few days before your party or event. Just store them in layers with parchment paper in between to prevent sticking.
