Variations and Substitutions

  • Candy Melts. You can use candy melts instead of chocolate chips if desired.
  • Cookies. We used classic oreo cookies but you can use any type you want. If you can find Halloween Oreo Cookies, that would add another pop of color. Other ideas include fudge stripe cookies, chocolate chip cookies and more.
  • Candy. Halloween M&M’s is another fun idea to add to this recipe. Candy Pumpkins or the Autumn Mix is another great variation to try. Reese’s Pieces also look and taste great in this mixture.
  • Topping. You can also drizzle melted milk chocolate on top or candy melts in seasonal colors. Use a fork to drizzle all over the mixture on the sheet pan. Allow to set and then break into pieces as normal.
  • Switch up the colors. Green and purple make another great color combination for fun Halloween treats.
  • Mini Marshmallows. Toss in a handful of mini marshmallows when you add the candy to the popcorn mixture.

Tips and Tricks

  • Remove any unpoppped kernels. It is important that you take a minute to remove any of the unpoppped kernels before adding the chocolate.
  • Melt the chocolate in intervals. The chocolate needs to be melted in 30 second intervals so it does not burn. Make sure to stir it after each interval. Pour the melted chocolate over the popcorn to cover.
  • Double the recipe. This recipe makes a lot but if you need even more, it’s easy to double it. This is the perfect idea if you need extra for party favors and such.
  • Popcorn – We recommend pouring the popcorn in a large bowl to remove the un-popped kernels.

This is such an easy and delicious Halloween treat to make for your next party or gathering. Save this recipe to try. It is definitely a keeper and will be a hit.
