Why We Love This Recipe
This recipe starts with Nutter Butter Cookies, and they are easily turned into a leprechaun. This would make a really fun family activity. Everyone can help to decorate the cookies. You don’t even have to turn on the oven.
Feel free to change the cookie decorations by using M&M, white chocolate chips, or sprinkles. I also make Leprechaun Bait and Pistachio Cookies.
Ingredients

- Nutter Butter Cookies. The base of this easy recipe.
- Small Candy Eyes. Get these at your local craft store.
- Candy Melts. You will need Orange Candy Melts and Green Candy Melts.
- Black Decorating Icing. I use black cookie icing in a tube to easily pipe the icing. You won’t need a piping bag.
- Shamrock Shaped Sprinkles. Adds a cute festive touch.
- Orange Round Sprinkles. This is for the nose.

How to Make Leprechaun Cookies
- Step 1. Prepare the pan. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Step 2. Melt the orange candy. Place the orange candy melts in a microwave safe bowl. Heat in 25 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until melted and smooth.

Step 3. Dip the cookie. Dip each side (long side) of the nutter butter cookie into the orange candy melts. Then carefully shake the cookie to get rid of any excess candy melts.

Step 4. Continue to coat the cookie. Then dip the bottom of the cookie into the orange candy melts and carefully shake the cookie to get rid of any excess candy melts to form the beard of the leprechaun. Set the cookie on the prepared baking sheet to cool.
- Step 5. Allow the cookies to dry. Continue this process until 24 cookies are coated with the orange beard. Make sure that the orange candy melts are dried on the cookies before proceeding with the next steps.
- Step 6. Melt the green candy melts. Place the green candy melts in a microwave safe bowl. Heat in 25 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until melted and smooth.

Step 7. Dip into the green candy. Dip the opposite end of the nutter butter cookies into the green candy melts. Carefully shake to get rid of any excess candy melts to form the hat of the leprechaun. Then place the cookie back on the baking sheet to cool.

Step 8. Continue this process with all the cookies. Make sure that the green candy melts are dried on the cookies before proceeding with the next steps.

Step 9. Make the hat. Use the black decorating icing to add a line on the bottom of the green part of the cookies to create the hat’s rim. Then carefully add a shamrock sprinkle to the center of the line for decoration on the hat.

Step 10. Add the eyes. Use the remaining black decorating icing as glue to add on the eyes of the leprechaun. Then add the orange sprinkles as the nose.
- Step 11. Allow to set. Place the cookies back on the baking sheet to allow the finishing touches to cool. Then they are ready to serve and enjoy!
Pro Tips
- Food Color. As another option, you can use white chocolate with green food color to make each of the hats.
- Cool completely. Each step of the cookies needs time to cool before adding the next layer of decoration.
- Chocolate Chips. You can use mini chocolate chips for the eyes instead of candy eyes.
- Line the pan. Use a silicone mat or parchment paper to line the pan.
Storage
Store any leftover cookies in an airtight container or ziplock bag at room temperature. You can use a layer of parchment paper in between the cookies to make sure they do not stick.
You can freeze the cookies up to 2 months in a freezer bag or container.
How Long Will Leprechaun Cookies Last?
The cookies will last up to 5 days if stored properly.
