Ingredients

Ingredients for Oreo Puppy chow - chex cereal, oreos, powdered sugar, chocolate.
  • Corn Chex Cereal – The crunchy base for the puppy chow, perfect for coating in chocolate.
  • Oreos, divided – Adds chocolatey crunch; some are crushed for mixing, some can be reserved for topping.
  • White Chocolate Chips – Provides sweet, creamy chocolate flavor that complements the Oreos.
  • Milk Chocolate Chips – Melts into a smooth coating for the cereal and Oreo mixture.
  • Vegetable Oil – Helps melt the chocolate smoothly and evenly coat the cereal.
  • Powdered Sugar – Dusts the mixture, creating the classic “puppy chow” look and adding sweetness.

Variations

  • Chocolate Lovers – Use all dark chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate, or white chocolate for different flavors.
  • Peanut Butter Twist – Drizzle melted peanut butter over the puppy chow for a nutty kick.
  • Mint Oreo – Swap regular Oreos for mint-flavored Oreos for a refreshing chocolate-mint version.
  • Festive Colors – Add red and pink M&M’s for Valentine’s Day, or green and red for Christmas.
  • Nutty Crunch – Fold in chopped peanuts, almonds, or pecans for extra texture.
  • Cereal Mix-Up – Mix in Rice Chex cereal or Wheat Chex with the Corn Chex for variety.
  • Cookies & Cream Deluxe – Add mini chocolate chip cookies or mini oreos for more cookie flavor.
  • Spicy Chocolate – Add a pinch of cayenne or cinnamon to the melted chocolate for a subtle, warming twist.

Avoid Moisture – Keep the puppy chow dry to prevent the chocolate from melting and the cereal from getting soggy.

Pro Tips

  • Melt Chocolate Slowly – Use a microwave in 20-second intervals to avoid burning the chocolate.
  • Mix Gently – Fold the cereal and crushed Oreos into the melted chocolate carefully to avoid crushing the cereal.
  • Cool Completely – Let the chocolate-coated mixture set slightly before tossing in powdered sugar to prevent clumping.
  • Divide Oreos Wisely – Reserve some Oreos for topping after mixing for added texture and visual appeal.
  • Use Vegetable Oil – A small amount helps the chocolate coat the cereal evenly and smoothly.
  • Customize – Add sprinkles, candy, or nuts for a festive twist.
