Can you make brownies in an air fryer?

Yes, brownies can definitely be made in the air fryer. You might be surprised but you can actually bake in the air fryer.

It is the perfect solution when you don’t want to heat up the oven or spend a lot of time baking. The air fryer greatly reduces the cooking time and it turns out great.

We love to use the air fryer for small batch baking.

Ingredients

Ingredients for air fryer brownies - brown sugar, cocoa powder, chocolate chips, vanilla, butter.
  • Brown Sugar. Learn how to make Homemade Brown Sugar.
  • Vanilla Extract. Pure vanilla extract is best.
  • Chocolate Chips. Use high quality chocolate for the tastiest results.

Find the entire ingredient list at the bottom of the page.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Nuts. Mix in a handful of your favorite nuts. Chopped walnuts or pecans taste great.
  • Peanut Butter Chips. Substitute the chocolate chips for peanut butter morsels. The combination of peanut butter and chocolate will be a hit.
  • White Chocolate Chips. Instead of the chocolate chips, you can use white chocolate chips in the brownie mixture.
  • Sea Salt. Sprinkle a little bit of sea salt on top of the brownies.
  • More chocolate. Drizzle chocolate on top for even more chocolate flavor.
  • Candy. Add crushed candy bars such as snickers, heath bars or anything you like. M&M candy also tastes delicious.

How to make brownies in an air fryer

Step 5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and top with the remaining chocolate chips. Place in the air fryer basket at 325 degrees F for 15 minutes and then check the brownies.  Insert a toothpick and only moist crumbs should come out. If the brownies are not done, cook in 5 minute intervals until the brownies are cooked through. Then allow to cool.

Can you make boxed brownie mix in the air fryer?

Yes, you can make air fryer boxed brownies.

  • Combine the brownies according to the box instructions.
  • Spread into an air fryer safe pan.
  • Bake for 15 minutes. Just like above, the cooking time may need to be adjusted if they aren’t done.

Storage

Leftover brownies can be stored in an airtight container or bag at room temperature for up to 5 days.  You can wrap in aluminum foil for extra freshness.

Pro Tips

  • Cooking time may vary. Each air fryer cooks differently so the bake times will vary.  Make sure to check regularly until the brownies are cooked through.
  • Room temperature eggs. This will make the texture of the brownies lighter.
  • Line the pan. We used parchment paper and it makes it so easy to remove from the pan. You can easily lift the entire sheet out and cut into squares.
  • Don’t overbake. Brownies continue to cook in the pan once removed from the air fryer.
