We love deep fried Oreos at the fair and decided to try to make them at home. They turned out absolutely wonderful. The crispy coating and confectioner’s sugar combine with Oreo cookies for the best treat.

Why We Love This Recipe

Sometimes you just have a craving for fried Oreos but don’t want to wait until the next carnival or state fair. This recipe allows you to make them at home for a fraction of the price.

With just 6 basic ingredients, this recipe could not be any simpler. My kids declared it a huge success and said it tasted just like the ones from the fair.

Ingredients

  • Oreo Cookies – We used the regular ones for this recipe, but any will work.
  • Pancake Mix – Any kind will work but we love this homemade pancake mix.
  • Egg – Room temperature
  • Milk – Whole Milk tastes best but you can use reduced fat.
  • Vegetable Oil – These are needed to make the pancake batter.
  • Powdered Sugar – We topped with powdered sugar, and it adds the perfect amount of sweetness to these Oreos.

Variations

  • Toppings. Top with Cinnamon and Sugar or drizzle with chocolate syrup or Hot Fudge Sauce. It’s also great with Homemade Caramel Sauce Recipe instead of a dusting of Powdered Sugar for a different flavor.
  • Oreo Flavors. I have tried Double Stuf Oreos, Golden Oreos, Mint and Birthday Cake Oreos and they were all amazing.
  • Oil. You can also use canola oil because it has a high smoke point.
  • Vanilla Extract. You can also add a teaspoon vanilla extract to the pancake batter.

How to Make Fried Oreos

Oil in frying pan.

Step 1. Start by heating 3 inches of oil in a dutch oven or deep fryer. Then heat the oil over medium high heat until it reaches 350 degrees.

Mixing bowl with pancake mix, egg, milk and oil.

Step 2. Whisk together the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients in a bowl.

Batter combined in a bowl and oreo being dipped.

Step 3. Dip each Oreo into the pancake batter. Then place in the hot oil.

Step 4. Cook for just a few minutes, turning occasionally. Fry until golden brown all over. Use a slotted spoon to help drain the grease.

Step 5. Place the fried Oreos on a serving plate lined with a paper towel. This will absorb excess oil.

Step 6. Sprinkle with powder sugar and serve.

Storage

Store the leftovers in an airtight container in a refrigerator up to 2-3 days. When reheating, I do recommend that you reheat them in hot oil. This will help to get the outside crispy again as they will become soften when stored.

Just keep in mind that these are best served fresh.

Pro Tips

  • Make sure the oil is at the right temperature. I use a deep frying thermometer to make sure that the oil is at the right temperature before frying. Oil that is too cold will make these Oreos greasy and too hot oil might burn them.
  • Make sure that the batter coats the Oreos. If the batter is dripping off the Oreos it might be too thin. If so, add more pancake mix until the batter is thicker and stays on the Oreos.
  • Don’t waste the batter. If you have leftover batter, don’t throw it out. You can use this batter to fry any of your favorite cookies or sweet snacks. Chocolate chips cookies, twinkies and even cheesecake are just items to cover in batter and fry.
  • Serve Fried Oreos fresh. These are best served right after being fried. They can be made a few hours before serving but I recommend serving them immediately after they have cooled.
  • Drain excess grease. You don’t want the treats to be soggy.
