What is cannoli dip made of?

Everything you love about a cannoli is in this delicious recipe. The ingredients used are pretty much the same and include cream cheese, whole milk ricotta, powdered sugar, vanilla and chocolate chips.

Now, don’t worry if ricotta cheese isn’t your favorite. It blends with the cream cheese and sugar to create a smooth and creamy dip. I bet you won’t even taste it but it sure helps to make this dip decadent.

Plus, ricotta cheese is a staple when making cannolis so it makes sense it would be in this dip recipe. It makes it more authentic so trust me on this! Don’t skip the ricotta or substitute it. It adds a unique flavor that makes this recipe what it is.

Ingredients

Ingredients for recipe - cream cheese, ricotta, powdered sugar, vanilla, mini chocolate chips.
  • Cream Cheese – Full fat is best. I don’t recommend using light or reduced-fat cream cheese in this dip as you need the flavor from regular cream cheese.
  • Ricotta – Make sure to use high-quality ricotta cheese in this. It will make a difference in how it tastes. Also, drain any excess liquid from the ricotta. You don’t want a runny dip.
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Mini Chocolate Chips– I prefer the mini size but you can use regular semi-sweet chocolate chips if you prefer. We have also used pieces of chocolate that I cut up from leftover chocolate bars.
