Dr pepper cake

Chocolate cake is super fun to make and eat. I’m always looking for new ways to try it and this recipe with Dr. Pepper does not disappoint.

I love this super moist Cola Chocolate Cake and wanted to try this new recipe using Dr. Pepper. Everyone went crazy over it and absolutely loved it!

It starts with a cake mix so the entire thing is super easy and fast. If you need a yummy recipe with very little work, this is the one to try. From family dinner to potlucks and birthdays, this recipe is a crowd pleaser.

  • chocolate cake mix
  • stick of butter
  • Dr pepper
  • milk
  • large eggs
  • for icing:
  • stick of butter
  • cocoa powder
  • dr pepper
  • powdered sugar – sifted

How to make dr pepper cake:

First, preheat the oven. While the oven is preheating, spray a 9×3 pan with cooking spray.

Second, mix the cake mix with the Dr. Pepper, butter, milk and eggs. Combine until is thoroughly mixed together.

4 photos. First photo- mix together the cake ingredients. Second photo- pour into a pan and bake. Third photo- combine the icing. Fourth photo- pour icing over cake.

Next, pour the batter into your pan. I told you it was so easy and not many steps at all for this cake. Bake for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

How to make chocolate frosting:

First, melt the butter in a medium saucepan. Once the butter is melted, add the cocoa powder and Dr. Pepper. Combine and bring to a boil.

As soon as it starts to boil. remove the pan from the heat. Keep stirring constantly.

Now, add the powdered sugar until the icing starts to get thick. Let it cool a little bit and then pour on top of the cake.

My kids ask for this cake for their birthday. It is so delicious and everyone loves it. They call it the Dr. Pepper Birthday cake!

Once you try it, you will see why it is so amazing. Plus, it really could not be any easier!


  • Make sure you have a 9 x 13 baking dish for the cake.  I also love the cake pans with the lid if you are taking this dessert somewhere. It helps prevent spills. It is also great for storing leftovers.
  • Try using disposable pans if you are taking this dessert to someone and don’t want to have to worry about getting the pan back. I often make this recipe for people or events because it is so easy and budget friendly to make. Not to mention everyone just loves it!

  • For cake:
  • 1 chocolate cake mix
  • 1 stick of butter melted
  • 1 cup Dr pepper
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • for icing:
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup dr pepper
  • 4 cups powdered sugar sifted


  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Lightly grease a 9×13 pan.
  • Mix the cake mix, cola, butter, milk and eggs until thoroughly mixed.
  • Once completely mixed, Pour into the pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.
  • Meanwhile make the icing:
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter.
  • Mix in the cocoa power and cola. Bring just to a boil.
  • Remove from the heat and stir constantly.
  • Mix in the powdered sugar until a the icing thickens. Allow it to cool slightly.
  • Pour on top of the cake.
  • Let the cake cool completely before serving.
