Why This Recipe Works

Lofthouse Cookies originated back in 1994. Lofthouse Foods bakery sold the soft and chewy sugar cookies to grocery stores. The ingredients are slightly different than a standard cookie.

When making these cookies you use both baking soda and baking powder. This allows them to have a softer, less crumbly texture. To keep the cookie moist, sour cream is added to the list of ingredients.

These Lofthouse Cookies are always frosted with a bright colored frosting and sprinkled with fun sprinkles.

Now you can easily make these Copycat Lofthouse Cookies at home.

Ingredients

Ingredients needed for cookies - flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, butter, sugar, sour cream, vanilla eggs, powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream
  • All-Purpose Flour. To prevent too much flour from being packed into the measuring cup, spoon the flour. Don’t scoop it.
  • Baking Soda. No worries if you run out. Try one of the Best Baking Soda Substitutes.
  • Unsalted Butter. Make sure to purchase unsalted and let it soften at room temperature.
  • Sour Cream. This makes the cookies moist and gives it a unique taste.
  • Vanilla Extract. Pure vanilla extract is best in this recipe.
  • Eggs. Room temperature eggs.

Frosting

  • Powdered Sugar. You want the frosting to be really smooth. Sift to remove any lumps.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream or Milk. I prefer to use heavy whipping cream for a richer taste.
  • Clear Vanilla Extract. Clear vanilla will not alter the color.
  • Coloring of your choice. Gel food coloring is best.
  • Sprinkles. Choose your favorite sprinkles.
