Find the complete list of ingredients at the bottom of the page.
Variations
- Sugar Cookies. Any sugar cookies work great for this recipe. You can use 3 Ingredient Sugar Cookie Recipe or your favorite sugar cookie recipe. Feel free to also use store bought sugar cookies. Just use what is easiest for you as they will turn out great.
- M&M’s. You can use seasonal M&M’s and change the colors. Another idea is to use Reese’s Pieces candy.
- Royal Icing. Feel free to flavor the icing with extract. Some ideas include lemon, peppermint and vanilla. Just keep in mind clear vanilla extract is best so it does not impact the pure white color. Otherwise, it will tint the icing, and it won’t have that gorgeous white hue.
- Decorations. Add a cute scarf to these cookies using pull and peel twizzlers. Other ideas include sprinkles for the buttons or mini chocolate chips. Get creative with these snowmen. You can also use licorice instead of black icing.
How to Make Melted Snowman Cookies
Step 1 – Make the sugar cookies in a large bowl. Prepare the cookie dough based on the package instructions and bake in the oven using an ungreased baking sheet. Let the cookies cool completely before decorating on a cooling rack.

Step 2. Make the royal icing in a medium bowl. Beat together the royal icing ingredients in a mixing bowl to a 10 second consistency. Fill a piping bag with the icing and cut off a small tip in the piping bag.

Step 3 – Frost the cookies. Allow the cookies to cool and frost each of the cookies with the icing. Allow the frosting to drip over the sides of the cookies to look like melted snow. I decorate the cookies on parchment paper to make clean up easy.

Step 4 – Cut the marshmallows. Immediately add half of the marshmallows onto each cookie toward the back of the cookies.

Step 5. Then add the M&Ms in the front to resemble the buttons on a snowman. Allow the icing to dry completely. Then use the black gel to pipe the face and black stick arms. Use the leftover white icing to attach the orange jimmies onto the marshmallow for the nose of the snowman. Serve on a cookie tray and enjoy.
Storage
Store the leftover Melted Snowman Sugar cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. Place wax paper in between the layers of cookies to prevent sticking.
Make sure the cookies are completely cool and set before storing. You want the top of each cookie to stay intact. If you place them in the container before they have completely hardened, they will stick together.
FAQs
The cookies will last up to 5-7 days in an airtight container. You can freeze the cookies if you need them to last longer.
Place them inside a freezer container. Put wax paper in between the layers of the cookies. They can be frozen up to 2 to 3 months.
This is a great way to prepare for holiday parties and save time. You can make these ahead of time and have one less thing to do.
While this easy sugar cookie recipe looks amazing, it is so simple to decorate. The sugar cookies are decorated with a base coat of white royal icing.
This gives the snowman cookies the gorgeous white sheen. Each cookie is topped with a half of a marshmallow for the appearance of a melted snowman.
The snowman face is easily made with decorator’s icing and M&M candy. This sweet treat is such a fun cookie to make.
This recipe is easy to adapt to what you have on hand or preference. You can easily decorate these snowmen using various other types of candy or embellishments.
Pro Tips
- Royal Icing. It is easiest to start with outlining the cookie and then fill in the rest of the icing.
- Decorate quickly. The marshmallows and decorations need to be added before the royal icing sets. It is best to decorate one cookie at a time so the icing does not set before adding the toppings.
- Cut the marshmallow in half. Don’t forget to cut the marshmallow in half. It is necessary so that each cookie resembles the look of a melted snowman. It only takes a minute to cut the marshmallows.
