Why This Recipe Works

It is a type of dessert that involves simple ingredients and very little preparation. The taste is similar to cobbler but prepared with a cake mix, fruit, butter and other pantry staples.

The process is simple and involves dumping the fruit or filling in a pan and then topping with cake mix and more. If you can toss a few ingredients into a pan, you can make this cake.

You don’t even need mixing bowls!

Pro Tips

  • Don’t mix. Do not mix together any of the ingredients in the pan.  Layer the ingredients and then bake.  Just simply dump and go without any mixing required.
  • Nuts. You can add chopped nuts to this recipe as well.  Add them with the brown sugar on top of the crushed pineapple.  I love adding chopped pecans or walnuts.
  • Cake Mix. We used yellow cake mix but white cake mix can be substituted. Feel free to use Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Duncan Hines or any brand you like.
