  • Angel Food Cake Mix. Use any brand you prefer.
  • Crushed Pineapple. Make sure to buy crushed and not tidbits.

  • Cake Mix. Substitute yellow cake mix or white cake mix instead of the angel food cake. You can even use pineapple cake mix for even more pineapple flavor. Betty Crocker, Duncan Hines or store brand all work fine in this recipe.
  • Pie filling. Add cherry pie filling with the pineapple to make Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake. Omit the fruit and just add pie filling. We like: apple pie filling, strawberry pie filling and blueberry.
  • Nuts. Sprinkle chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans on top of the pineapple.
  • Melted butter. You can add slices of butter or melted butter on top before baking.

Step By Step Instructions

  • Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 9X13 cake pan with a non-stick cooking spray.

Step 2. Dump the dry cake mix into the bottom of the baking dish.  Then dump the crushed pineapple on top.  Use a spatula to mix together until all of the cake mix is moist.

Step 3. Bake the cake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool and then cut with a serrated knife.

Storage

Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to 1 week.  Cover with plastic wrap or use a lid if the pan has one.

If you need the cake to last longer, consider freezing it. Wrap it in plastic wrap and again in foil.

It can be frozen up to 3 months. Remove from the freezer and thaw in the fridge overnight when ready to serve.

Instructions
