Pro Tips

  • Use the right amount of Frosting – I love frosting on cake. But when making cake balls, to much frosting causes the cake to be to wet. It only takes a little frosting to make the cake balls form.
  • Chill Cake Balls – Before dipping the cake balls in the chocolate, make sure you get them really cold. We recommend freezing them on a baking sheet.
  • Dipping – To dip the cake, use a 2 cup measuring cup as it is the perfect depth for dipping.
  • Vary the Sprinkles – Try using different types of sprinkles to decorate according to your theme. These are so easy to make work for any occasion.
  • Change the chocolate – We love to try different frosting inside and even different candy melts.  Try milk chocolate instead of white chocolate to dip in chocolate with the cake balls.
  • Use different icings – You can switch out frosting and use chocolate frosting with chocolate coatings and even chocolate cake mix. We also like to use cream cheese frosting.
  • Adding Coloring – It is not necessary, but adding sprinkles really complete the cake balls.
  • Use a Cookie Scoop – To form the cake into balls, use a cookie scoops. It saves so much time and makes the perfect round ball.

FAQs

How do you keep Cake Balls from falling apart?

To keep the cake balls from falling apart is to make sure your frosting isn’t to thick. You want to make sure that there is enough frosting to cover the cake, but not to much that it weighs it down.

Removing excessive chocolate allows for the balls to stay together on the stick.

How to Dip Cake Balls?

You can either just drop it in the melted almond bark with a fork or use a toothpick. Some people prefer to stick a toothpick in the cake ball and use this to dip the balls.

We recommend using a container that is deep enough to dip your cake pop in so that it covers it completely. Gently make sure all edges are covered so that it doesn’t fall apart.

What is the best way to serve cake balls or cake pops?

Purchase a cake pop stand but you can also use a block of Styrofoam. The sticks are easy to push into this and it securely holds them in place. This makes it easy to grab and go when serving.

If you are concerned about how the Styrofoam block looks, you can wrap it in paper secured with pins. You can use wrapping paper or craft paper that matches your décor.

Once dry, you can also serve them in a mason jar. Just use the idea that works best for you.

How long do Cake Balls last?

Cake balls will last for about 5-7 days left out on the counter in an airtight container. We love to place them in a cake stand to easily serve them.

How to store?

To store leftover cake balls place them in an air tight container. You can store them in the refrigerator and they will last about 10 days.

Cake balls can also be placed in the freezer. They store great and we like to eat them cold.
