Recipe substitutions and Additions

  • Chocolate Candies. We used pastel M&M’s but you can use any type of chocolate candy you prefer. Some ideas include: Peanut M&M’s, Peanut Butter M&M’s, Reese’s Pieces, and more.
  • Pretzels. Any variety is great in this recipe. You can use pretzel sticks, squares, or anything you prefer.
  • Mini Marshmallows. This is a tasty add-in for another layer of flavor. This should be added after the melted white chocolate so it does not melt the marshmallows.
  • Popped Popcorn. This can be substituted for the cereal.
  • Cereal. Chex Cereal is yummy but you can also use Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Captain Crunch, Lucky Charms, or Kix cereal.
  • Seasonal. It is so easy to change the color of the seasonal M&M’s. You can easily make this for any holiday or occasion.
  • Sprinkles. We used pastel because it is perfect for Easter but you can substitute any type. Coordinate birthday party colors and more and serve this treat year-round.
  • Peanuts. Salted or Unsalted Peanuts taste great with the other ingredients.
  • Butterscotch Chips. For a different flavor, combine both butterscotch chips and white chocolate for another yummy variation.

How to store bunny bait

Store the mixture in a ziplock bag or covered airtight container. You can leave it on the counter for 3 days at room temperature. It can be frozen up to 3 months.

Recipe Tips

  • Line the baking sheet. Spread the mixture on a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper. It will make clean up much easier.
  • Allow to set. The mixture needs to completely set before breaking into pieces and storing. It will be very messy if you rush this step. If you need to speed this along, you can refrigerate for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Work quickly. White chocolate hardens quickly. Combine the ingredients together quickly for the best results and the most even coating.
  • High quality chocolate. The entire recipe for bunny bait will taste better if you use a good quality chocolate.
  • Make in advance. This can be made up to a week in advance if you need to save time for an event. Just make sure to store it properly.

Can I make this for other holidays?

Yes, it is so easy to make this year round for holidays and other occasions. Simply substitute the pastel M&M’s for Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s or July 4th varieties.

It will instantly transform the recipe into the perfect treat for any holiday. With minor adjustments, this recipe comes together for a great treat year round.
