How to store

Store the leftover cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week. However, I find that the cupcakes are the best within 3 to 4 days of baking.

Topping ideas

  • Instead of sprinkles, use icing to write words on the cupcakes. Some ideas include: Love, XOXO, Be Mine and more.
  • Crushed candy, mini marshmallows and nuts all make great toppings.

Expert Tips

  • Don’t put too much batter in the cupcake liners. If you overfill them, they will not look like hearts once baked in the muffin pan.
  • If you are having trouble getting the marble to stay in place, try filling with batter first and then placing the marble.
  • Any type of liners will work. However, foil liners are sturdier than a paper baking cup and make it easier to form that point in the middle.
  • Don’t have any marbles? Make small balls out of aluminum foil and use those instead.
  • Cake Mix. Substitute red velvet cake to make red velvet cupcakes. You can also use vanilla cupcakes for the perfect valentine’s day treat.
