Ingredients

- Rice Krispie Cereal. Make sure it is fresh and not stale.
- Butter. This helps to combine the marshmallows, and we recommend real butter.
- Marshmallows. Mini marshmallows are easiest to melt.
- Creamy Peanut Butter. You can use any brand you love but I do suggest creamy and not crunchy.
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips. I like semi-sweet because it cuts down on sweetness but you can also use milk chocolate chips.

Variations and Additions
- Chocolate Chips – If you want to add more chocolate, mix in some chocolate chips or some dark chocolate chips.
- Peanut Butter Chips – For added peanut butter flavor, mix in some peanut butter chips.
- Sea Salt – Top the chocolate with some sea salt.
- Mini Marshmallow – If you prefer, add in some mini marshmallows when you are mixing in the cereal.
- Sprinkles – Add sprinkles to the top- holiday, birthday or anything you like.
Step By Step Instructions
- Step 1. Prepare the pan. First, spray a 9X13 pan with a non-stick cooking spray.
- Step 2. Melt the butter and marshmallows. Next, melt the butter and then add the marshmallows and peanut butter in a large microwave-safe bowl. Continue to heat in 30 second interval. Stir between each one until fully meted.

Step 3. Mix in Cereal – Once the mixture has been melted, mix in the cereal until completely coated.

Step 4. Spread the cereal mixture into the baking dish. I like to use a piece of wax paper to press the mixture into the bottom of the pan. Also, spray the wax paper with cooking spray to make it easier.

Step 5. Melt the chocolate chips with the vegetable oil in a microwave safe bowl. Make sure to do this in 30 second increments. Stir between each one until fully meted.

Step 6. Pour the chocolate over the top of the cereal mixture layer. Allow for the chocolate to harden at room temperature. Then serve and enjoy these cereal treats.
Storage
Store any leftover Rice Krispie treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
Do not refrigerate the rice krispie treats or they will harden and not be as soft. They also will not be ooey gooey.

- Thinner Treats – You can make half of this batch for thinner rice krispie treats. We love thick rice krispie treats but you make what you prefer!
- Do not store in the refrigerator. They are best left to cool at room temperature so that the remain gooey and delicious.
- Don’t skip the parchment paper. This helps with cleanup and makes it so easy. To easily lift treats out of the pan, use parchment paper.
- Use Fresh Ingredients – When making these treats always use fresh marshmallows and cereal. The treats will taste better and last a lot longer.
- Vanilla Extract – Adding vanilla extract adds so much flavor to these treats
- Gently Press into Pan – Make sure to use your hands or spatula to press into pan so the treats remain soft.
FAQs
The most common cause is using too many marshmallows. This will cause them to be soft and fall apart.
Resist the urge to add extra marshmallows because the results will not be the same. We recommend following the recipe as listed. This ensure that your adding the right amount of marshmallows and cereal.
Another culprit is too much cereal that causes the mixture to be dry. This will make the recipe crumble and fall apart.
If you store the rice krispie treats in a container , they will last about 3-4 days. Ours never last that long though because we eat them so fast. Also, use wax paper in between the treats to keep them from sticking.
I do not recommend freezing this recipe. It will change the texture of the final product and cause it to harden.
These Rice Krispie treats are not gluten free. Rice Krispie Cereal contains malt flavor according to their ingredients. Malt flavor contains barley, which is part of a grain which contains gluten.
However, you can purchase crispy rice cereal that is gluten free.
