Neapolitan Rice Krispie Treats

Today, we are jazzing up plain rice krispie treats with these Neapolitan Rice Krispie Treats version. They are so pretty and just a blast to make.

Rice krispie treats are one of my favorite sweet snacks and so incredibly simple to make. My kids love these and you can save a ton by making these at home.

The layers look impressive but they are actually so simple to make. You are going to love how easy it is and how delicious they taste. 

I love to take a pan of rice krispy treats to a friend or neighbor.  I use the disposable pans  and they don’t have to worry about returning the dish. 

Plus, it helps with clean up on those busy nights. This dish is also perfect to take to potluck dinners when you need to bring a dessert or to someone recovering from surgery or with a new baby.

It is such a classic dessert and snack. You will not believe just how easy it is. With just a few very simple ingredients, you can make these at home.

Ingredients for Neapolitan Rice Krispie Treats:

The ingredient list is so very simple to make these pretty and tasty layers of rice krispie treats. 

  • Rice Krispies Cereal
  • Cocoa Krispies
  • Salted Butter
  • Miniature Marshmallows
  • Box of Powdered Strawberry Jell-O

How to make Neapolitan Rice Krispie Treats:

Keep in mind that you will be making 3 batches of Rice Krispies to get each flavor.

  • Prepare Pan – Start by coating an 8 x 11.5 baking pan with non stick cooking spray or butter very thoroughly. 
  • Melt Butter and Marshmallows – Next, melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a large saucepan at medium low heat. Add 4 cups mini marshmallows and stir constantly until melted.
  • Add in Rice Krispies Cereal – Remove from heat. Add 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture and stir until all the cereal is coated.
  • Press into greased pan – Add the mixture into your greased baking dish and use a piece of wax paper to press the cereal mixture down firmly.

Prepare Chocolate Layer:

  • Prepare pan for second layer – Wash and dry your large saucepan so you can start on your chocolate layer. Melt 3 tbs butter in a large saucepan.
  • Melt butter and marshmallows – Add 4 cups mini marshmallows and stir constantly until melted. Remove from heat.
  • Mix in Rice Krispies – Add 6 cups Cocoa Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture and stir until all the cereal is coated.
  • Add Mixture to Pan – Turn that mixture on top of your vanilla layer and use a piece of wax paper to press the cereal mixture down firmly.

Prepare Strawberry Layer:

  • Prepare pan for strawberry layer – Wash and dry your large saucepan so you can start on your strawberry layer. Melt 3 tbs butter in a large saucepan.
  • Melt Marshmallows – Add 4 cups mini marshmallows and stir constantly until melted. Remove from heat.
  • Mix in Strawberry Jello and Cereal – Add your 3 oz box of Strawberry Jell-O and stir until it has melted into your marshmallow mixture. Add 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal to the marshmallow mixture and stir until all the cereal is coated.
  • Add to Prepared Pan – Pour the mixture on top of your chocolate layer and use a piece of wax paper to press the cereal mixture down firmly. Allow your treats to cool completely before slicing and serving.

Layer the Neapolitan Treats:

Everything gets placed on top of each other for a really cool Neapolitan themed Rice Krispie Treat. 

It is really that easy to make these treat. Allow the treats to cool before cutting.

This is such a fun recipe and the vanilla layer, chocolate layer and strawberry layer all make such a cool treat. Neapolitan ice cream fans will really love this treat.

How to Store:

Rice Krispie Treats are best stored at room temperature so that the remain gooey and delicious. We do not recommend placing them in the refrigerator.

Can you Freeze them?

We do not recommend freezing these treats. They are best served fresh.

Variation:

  • Add sprinkles to the top- holiday, birthday or anything you like.
  • You can try using different colored marshmallows to jazz things up. We have used Strawberry Marshmallows for a yummy option.
  • Add chocolate chips to the mixture.
  • Try peanut butter morsels.
  • Drizzle chocolate on top. 
  • Use food coloring to make a different color layer.
