Ingredients:

Ingredients for hot cocoa bombs.
  • Green Candy Melts
  • Mini Marshmallows (divided)
  • White Hot Chocolate Mix (divided)
  • White Candy Melts
  • Red Candy Heart Sprinkles

You can find the complete ingredient list at the bottom of the post in the recipe card.

Variations and Additions

  • Regular Hot Cocoa Mix. You can substitute regular hot cocoa mix for white chocolate mix. However, it will not be the same light color once combined.
  • Mint flavor. If you love mint flavor, add mint extract to the melted chocolate. Don’t add too much because you also have the crushed peppermints inside.
  • White Chocolate. You can substitute white chocolate for the green candy melts. Just add green food coloring until the desired shade. It will not melt as smoothly as the candy melts but will still turn out good.

How to make Grinch Hot Chocolate Bombs:

Step 1. Melt the green candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second intervals.

Stir between each interval. Then pour a small amount into the silicone mold.

Step 2. Coat the bomb molds with melted chocolate. Use a spoon to spread the green chocolate evenly in the mold. Make sure that the melted candy goes all the way up to the edges of the mold.

Allow the candy melts to harden. Follow the same process 3-4 more times to apply more layers of the melted candy melts into the molds.

Step 3. Let set. Then allow them to completely harden (5 minutes) and gently remove from the molds.

Use a microwave safe plate for approximately 30 seconds to heat up the plate.  Place half of the chocolate shells onto the warm plate (not hot plate) to melt the rim slightly.

How to use Cocoa Bombs:

  • Put a Grinch Cocoa Bomb in a mug.
  • Pour a cup of Hot Milk over the chocolate spheres. It is so much fun to watch it melt and the marshmallow and other ingredients pop out. We used a cup of milk, but you can adjust to taste.
  • Stir with a spoon to make grinch hot chocolate recipe. Everything should be well combined and then enjoy! It is so easy and taste rich and creamy.

Storage

After these hot chocolate bombs have been made, they do not need to be refrigerated and can remain at room temperature. They will last approximately 3-6 months depending on the expiration date on the chocolate that you use to make the bombs.

You can place each cocoa bomb in a cupcake liner if desired. Then place inside an airtight container or cellophane bag. This looks really pretty for gift giving and makes the Hot chocolate bombs grinch style look absolutely adorable.

Tips for Success

  • Handle the cocoa bombs carefully. The heat from your hands will soften the chocolate. You do not want to touch the cocoa bombs a lot or they will melt.
  • Coconut Oil. If the chocolate is too thick to spread out, add coconut oil to the mixture. Do not add too much or it will be runny and not set properly. Just start with a tablespoon of coconut oil and adjust as needed.
