What is Grinch Bark?

It is candy melts that have been melted and spread on a baking sheet. The mixture is then topped with sprinkles. In this case, it is Christmas sprinkles and hearts.

Once the mixture hardens, it is so easy to break the candy bark into pieces for a tasty Grinch themed treat. We even make a patriotic version with this Red White and Blue Bark to enjoy year round.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Peppermint Extract. You can add ½ teaspoon Peppermint extract for a mint flavor twist.
  • Pretzels. Layer pretzels on the lined baking sheet. Then top as normal with the melted candy mixture. This extra layer will take a little longer to set but adds a nice sweet and salty combination.
  • White Chocolate. Melt white chocolate chips and add drops of green food coloring until the desired color. This does not always melt as smooth as candy melts but is another option if desired.

Step by Step Instructions

Melting the green candy melts in a clear bowl

Step 1 – Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the green chocolate candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl.  Microwave in 30-second increments stirring after each interval until the chocolate is completely melted. Make sure to stir the melted green candy.

Step 2 – Spread the vibrant green candy melts on the cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Topping the green melted candy with sprinkles

Step 3 – Then sprinkle the M&Ms and sprinkles on top of the melted white chocolate.

Breaking the bark into pieces

Step 4 – Then let the bark sit at room temperature until the chocolate hardens (about 2-3 hours).  Or you can put the mixture in the refrigerator for 1 hour. The break the bark into pieces and serve.

Pro Tips

  • Use candy melts for the best results. This melts smoother than white chocolate candy.
  • Allow the bark to set in the fridge or freezer. The mixture needs to completely set. You can place in the refrigerator or freezer to speed this along.
  • Make sure your hands or knife are dry when breaking the candy. If your hands have any moisture on them, it can make the sprinkles bleed. If you use a knife to cut the bark, it also needs to be completely dry.
  • Melt the candy increments. You do not want to burn the mixture. Melt the candy 30 seconds at a time and stir after each interval.
  • Spread the candy melts as evenly as possible. It does not have to be perfect but try to make it as even as you can. This will make it easier to break later and it will look nicer. You can use a spatula to help even it out.
