What is a blondie?
Blondies resemble a brownie in shape and consistency. However, it does not use cocoa powder as typically found in brownies. Blondies use brown sugar instead.
Ingredients

Blondies
- Unsalted Butter (melted)
- Brown Sugar
- Large Egg
- Vanilla Extract
- Butterscotch Chips
Maple Butter Sauce
- Real Maple Syrup
- Butter
- Brown Sugar
- Cream Cheese (softened)
Serving
- Butter Pecan Ice Cream.
- No Churn Vanilla Ice Cream
Variations
- White Chocolate Chips. Instead of butterscotch chips, try using white chocolate chips in this recipe.
- Nuts. If you like nuts, add ½ cup to 1 cup into the batter before baking. Chopped walnuts or pecans taste great.
- Maple flavoring. For even more maple flavor, try substituting maple flavoring instead of vanilla extract.
How to make Maple Butter Blondies

Step 1. Start by preheating the oven and preparing the pan. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and spray an 8X8 baking pan with nonstick spray or parchment paper.

Step 2. Beat together the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl until smooth. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

Step 3. Mix together the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Step 4. Combine the butter mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir by hand until just combined. Do not over mix.

Step 5. Add the butterscotch chips to the mixture.

Step 6. Then gently stir in the butterscotch chips.

Step 7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 8. While the blondies bake, combine the sauce ingredients. In a small saucepan, stir together the butter, syrup, brown sugar and cream cheese.

Step 9. Whisk until the consistency is smooth using medium heat. The sauce should be well combined and not grainy.

Step 10. Cut the brownies into squares while they are still warm. Serve the blondies topped with the maple glaze.
Serving suggestions
We love to enjoy these brownies served warm. Top with ice cream and a generous portion of maple butter sauce.
It is delicious with vanilla ice cream or butter pecan ice cream. Feel free to use your favorite type of ice cream.
Expert Tips
- Line your baking pan. To make cleanup easier, line the baking pan with parchment paper. You can also lift the brownies out to easily cut them if desired.
- Light brown sugar. We used light brown sugar because it results in the desired color for the sauce. However, you can certainly use dark if that is what you have.
Storage
Store leftover blondies inside an airtight container or bag. They will last up to 4 to 5 days at room temperature.
The blondies do not need to be refrigerated and doing so will dry them out.
However, the sauce needs to be refrigerated due to the cream cheese and such. Store inside an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use on the blondies.
You can also freeze the blondies to extend their shelf life. Place inside a freezer container separate with parchment paper. The parchment paper will help the bars from sticking.
Then freeze 3 to 4 months. When ready to serve, allow to thaw at room temperature or reheat in the microwave.
