Red Hot Cookies Recipe:
We make a lot of cookies for the holidays or when we have friends and family over. I like to change things up and make cookies with candies. This cinnamon flavored cookies is one of my favorites.
These cookies taste amazing and are easy to make. It takes your basic sugar cookie recipe to the next level with the cinnamon flavor candies. These cookies would be perfect for Valentine’s Day or Christmas.
Ingredients:

- Crushed Red Hot Candies
- Butter (softened)
- Granulated Sugar
- Large Egg
- Vanilla Extract
- All Purpose Flour
- Salt
- Baking Powder
- Baking Soda
- Powdered Sugar
How to Make Red Hot Cookies:
- Step 1 – Heat Oven – Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Step 2 – Crush Candies – Place the red hot candies in a ziplock bag. Then gently crush them with a rolling pin or mallet.
- Step 3 – Cream Butter – In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Combine with a hand held or stand up mixer until light and fluffy. Add in the vanilla extract and egg. Mix until combined.
- Step 4 – Mix Dry Ingredients – In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Step 5 – Mix dry and wet ingredients – Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Step 6 – Add in Candy – Gently mix in the crushed red hots candy.
- Step 7 – Roll Dough – Roll the dough in a large teaspoon size ball. Then roll those balls in the powdered sugar. Place on a cookie sheet. Continue this process until all the cookies are formed with remaining dough.
- Step 8 – Bake Cookies – Bake for 9-11 minutes until the edges of the cookies just start to brown (do not over cook).
- Step 9 – Cool Cookies – Remove from the oven. Let the cookies cool for 5 minutes on the sheet. Then move to wire racks to cool completely.
- Step 10 – Serve – Then the cookies are ready to serve and enjoy!
Recipe Tips:
- Combine Ingredients – Cream the butter and sugar with a stand mixer for best results. Make sure to scrape sides of the bowl.
- Prepared Baking Sheet – Line baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with nonstick cooking spray. This helps for an easy cleanup and removing the cooking from the pan. You can also use a silicone mat.
- Cooling Cookies – Cool the cookies on a wire rack before serving.
- Scooping Cookie Dough – You can use spoons to scoop the dough but we recommend using a cookie scoop.
Variations Ideas:
- Glaze – For added flavor, top the cookie with a glaze.
- White Chocolate Chips – Add in white chocolate chips for added flavor and texture.
How to Store Leftovers:
Stir the leftover cookies in an airtight container or bag. Store at room temperature for up to 4-5 days. You can also freeze by placing in a freezer safe bag for up to 3 months.
