Variations
- Peanut Butter Chips. Substitute the candy in the dough for peanut butter chips. This will give you even more peanut butter flavor.
- Chocolate Chips. If you want more chocolate flavor, try adding chocolate chips in the dough instead of Reese’s Pieces. You can also use a combination of both types.
- Reese’s Cups. Chop Reese’s Cups and add together with the candy to mix in the dough. The combination is delicious.
- Cookie base. Try different types of cookie base, Instead of peanut butter, try sugar cookie, chocolate peanut butter or chocolate chip cookie.
- White Chocolate Chips. If you love the taste of white chocolate, substitute white chocolate chips in the dough.
How To Make Reese’s Pieces Cookies
- Step 1. Preheat the oven while you prepare the cookie dough. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2. Combine the dry ingredients. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt.

Step 3. Get out a separate large bowl. Combine the softened butter and sugar. Use a hand mixer or stand mixer until the sugar, brown sugar and butter are light and fluffy. Then add in the egg and vanilla extract.

Step 4. Next, add the peanut butter and stir until combined.

Step 5. Slowly add the flour mixture to the dough using the mixer on low. Be careful not to over mix.

Step 6. Carefully fold in the candy. Do not use a mixer for this step.

Step 7. Scoop the dough and form the dough balls.

Step 8. Top with more Reese’s Pieces.

Step 9. Bake the cookies. Then cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes. Finally, move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
Pro Tips
- Use Softened Butter: Softened butter blends more easily into the dough for a tender, chewy texture. Avoid melted butter, as it can make the cookies spread too much and alter the texture.
- Room Temperature Eggs: Using eggs at room temperature helps the dough come together smoothly and ensures even baking.
- Gently Fold in Reese’s Pieces: It’s okay if some candy pieces break. They’ll distribute more peanut butter flavor throughout the dough.
- Cookie Size Matters: This recipe yields about 24 standard cookies. For larger, bakery-style cookies, make bigger dough balls (about 12 cookies total) and increase the baking time slightly.
- Don’t Overmix: Overmixing the dough can make the cookies dense. Stir just until ingredients are combined.
- Chill Dough (Optional): Chilling the dough for 15–30 minutes before baking helps prevent excessive spreading and enhances flavor.
- Space Cookies Properly: Leave enough room between cookies on the baking sheet, as they will spread slightly while baking.
- Customize the Mix-Ins: Add extra chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or even drizzle with peanut butter after baking for added richness.
Storage
Room Temperature: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4–5 days.
Refrigerator: Keep cookies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week to maintain freshness. Bring to room temperature before serving for the best texture.
Freezer: Reese’s Pieces Cookies freeze well for up to 2–3 months. Wrap individually in plastic wrap or place in a freezer-safe container. Thaw at room temperature before enjoying.
Make-Ahead: You can scoop and shape cookie dough ahead of time, then freeze the dough balls. Bake directly from frozen, adding a minute or two to the baking time as needed.
