Why We Love This Recipe

This recipe for Valentine’s Brownies makes it so easy to enjoy a homemade treat. They are so much better than store bought, and anyone can make Valentine Brownies with such simple to follow instructions.

Each bite of these fudgy brownies will melt in your mouth.

Ingredients

Ingredients for brownies - sugar, oil, vanilla, cocoa powder, flour, chocolate chips, M&Ms.
  • Sugar. Plain granulated sugar.
  • Vegetable Oil. Helps to make the brownies moist.
  • Vanilla Extract. Pure vanilla extract is best.
  • Cocoa Powder. Use a good quality cocoa powder. I like Hershey’s.
  • All Purpose Flour. For the most accurate measuring of flour, spoon the flour into the cup instead of scooping it.
  • Chocolate Chips. The flavor is best with good quality chocolate.
  • Valentine’s Day M&Ms. This makes the recipe so festive.

You can view the complete list of ingredients at the bottom of the page.

Variations

  • Heart-shaped Cookie Cutters. Cut out heart shape pieces of brownie before serving.
  • Sprinkles. Try topping with festive Valentine’s Day sprinkles.
  • Box of brownie mix. Instead of homemade brownies, use a box mix according to package directions and add the festive mix-ins to the chocolate mixture.
  • Frosting. You can frost the brownies with your favorite icing. I love Strawberry Buttercream Frosting because it is pink! Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe is another option.
  • Toppings. Try adding crushed oreos, nuts or candy to the top. Drizzle melted white chocolate on top.
  • Butter. Swap the oil in the recipe for melted butter.
  • Other holidays. Swap the M&M’s for other holidays to make this work for lots of special occasions.

Storage

Store the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Make sure to let brownies cool at room temperature before storing.

You can also freeze the brownies up to a month. Allow to thaw in the fridge when ready to eat. You can speed this along by thawing in the microwave for 15 second intervals.

Pro Tips

  • Don’t overmix the batter. Mix together until the ingredients are just combined.
  • Allow to cool before slicing. Give the brownies time to cool completely before cutting. This will ensure nice clean slices.
  • Try other holidays. Swap the M&M’s for other holidays or use regular M&M’s to enjoy any day of the week.
  • Prepare the pan. Line the pan with parchment paper to make it easy to remove the brownies and cut them.
