Ingredients

Ingredients for Bacon chocolate chip cookies - butter, bacon grease, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, flour, baking soda, bacon, chocolate chips.
  • Butter: Softened at room temperature for easy mixing and a tender cookie texture.
  • Bacon Grease: Use cooled and solidified bacon fat to add rich, smoky flavor.
  • Brown Sugar: Provides sweetness and chewiness; homemade brown sugar works well too.
  • Eggs: Large eggs help bind the dough and add moisture.
  • Vanilla Extract: Pure vanilla enhances the flavor of the cookies.
  • All-Purpose Flour: Spoon into the measuring cup for accuracy; avoid scooping directly from the bag.
  • Baking Soda: Helps the cookies rise and spread evenly.
  • Bacon: Cooked until crisp and roughly chopped for savory crunch.
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: Adds melty chocolate flavor; milk chocolate chips can be used as an alternative.

You can get the entire ingredients at the bottom of the page.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Bourbon. You can add ¼ cup to the wet ingredients. Combine as normal.
  • Maple Syrup. Add ½ cup maple syrup to the cookie mixture. Try to use real maple syrup if possible. The flavor is so much better.
  • Dark Chocolate. Substitute dark chocolate chips for semi-sweet chocolate.
  • Omit the bacon. These cookies also taste fabulous without the bacon.

How To Make Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies

Storage

Room Temperature: Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Freezing: Cookies can be frozen for up to 3 months. Place them in a freezer-safe bag or container and thaw at room temperature before serving.

Separate Layers: If storing multiple layers of cookies, place parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.

Keep Bacon Crisp: For slightly crisper bacon pieces, store cookies in a loosely covered container rather than tightly sealed, but this may slightly dry the cookie.

Pro Tips

  • Cook Bacon Crisply: Cook bacon until fully crisp so it adds texture without making the cookies greasy.
  • Use Solidified Bacon Grease: Make sure the bacon fat is cooled and solidified before mixing into the dough.
  • Room-Temperature Butter: Softened butter mixes more evenly with sugar for a tender, chewy cookie.
  • Chill the Dough (Optional): Chilling the dough for 30–60 minutes helps the cookies hold their shape and enhances flavor.
  • Mix Gently: Fold in bacon and chocolate chips gently to avoid overmixing the dough.
  • Baking Time: Keep an eye on cookies—bake until the edges are lightly golden, even if the centers look slightly underbaked; they will set as they cool.
  • Cookie Size: Use a cookie scoop for uniform cookies to ensure even baking.

    Needed a little more flour.

Cookies are very good but couldnt taste the bacon. Could see it.

  3. Amy says:

I’ve made these before but never with the bacon grease. I never got a good bacon taste before so I used half choc and half peanut butter chips and increased the amount of bacon in this recipe. It turned out pretty good. All ovens vary and I’m at high altitude, so 10 minutes was a little too long for me. I also shaped my dough in cylinders, that seemed to really help.
    Good taste! Thanks!
