Variations

  • Store-bought crust. Instead of making the crust, you can use a store bought Oreo Crust.
  • Sprinkles. Add festive sprinkles to the top of the pie.
  • Use a graham cracker crust instead. This pie recipe is also delicious with a graham crack crust instead of an Oreo crust. Either work great in this easy recipe.
  • You can add white chocolate chips on top if you prefer. I think they go great with crushed candy canes.
  • Peppermint Candy. You can use crushed peppermints instead of candy canes if desired.

Pro Tips:

  • Make sure that the cream cheese is softened at room temperature so that you do not have any lumps in your pie filling.
  • I find that a glass pie plate works best for this easy pie recipe. You can use another pie pan as well. I just don’t prefer to use a disposable pie pan for this recipe as it’s not as sturdy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I omit the Peppermint Extract?

Yes, you can leave the peppermint extract out if you prefer. However, the peppermint flavor will not be as strong in the candycane pie. If you prefer, you can use vanilla extract.

Can I make this pie in advance?

Yes, this pie can easily be made the day before serving . Store the pie in the refrigerator and then it will be ready to serve after dinner for the next day.

I usually cover it with plastic wrap to help keep it fresh. You can also wait to top the pie with the crushed candy canes right before serving so that they don’t sink into the pie while it’s being refrigerated.

How to store?

Cover with plastic wrap or cling wrap and refrigerator any leftover pie for up to 5-7 days.

Can you freeze the pie?

We have found that this pie does not freeze well, so we do not recommend freezing this pie recipe.

How to travel with Peppermint Pie?

I can’t wait to make this for the next family gathering. It is such an easy dessert to make.

I use one of these handy pie carriers and transporting the pie is super easy. This is something I use a lot and it helps prevents spills in the car.
