What chocolate is good for fondue?

Semisweet chocolate or bittersweet chocolate make great options for fondue. However, you can also use white chocolate or dark chocolate.

The most important thing is to use good quality chocolate. It will make a big difference in how it melts and how it tastes. The texture will be smoother and the taste richer. We also love to make White Chocolate Fondue.

How to make chocolate fondue in a saucepan?

You do not have to use a fondue pot to make a chocolate fondue. This can be accomplished in a saucepan.

Simply add the ingredients and melt using low heat. It is important that none of the ingredients come to a boil. It needs to be cooked low and slow or it will be grainy and possibly burn.

If you are using a saucepan, the only issue will be with keeping the melted chocolate warm. You can pour the chocolate into a small crockpot to keep it warm for an easy solution.

How to keep fondue warm?

When serving, keep it in a small crock pot on the warm setting or in a fondue pot. This will keep it perfectly warm for your gathering or party.

If you do not have a fondue pot, it is absolutely fine. You can serve it using the saucepan and place an oven mitt underneath it on the table.

When it starts to get cool, reheat in the microwave or stove top. You may need to add a little more cream if it gets too thick when reheating.

Fondue does not have to be that warm to be delicious. It is delicious even as it starts to cool and actually more manageable for kids.

Can you make fondue in advance?

Fondue can be made in advance up to 1 to 2 days. Make sure to allow the mixture to cool completely and then refrigerate.

When ready to serve, heat in the microwave using 30 second increments. Stir in between each and continue to microwave until heated through.

If you have a fondue pot, you can reheat the mixture using that. However, I prefer to use the microwave so I can heat in increments to ensure it does not burn.

How to store

Store the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 1 week.  When reheating, add in more cream or milk to thin out the chocolate as it will thicken as its stored.

It is easy to reheat and still tastes delicious. We all look forward to leftovers from parties and gatherings.

Leftovers also make great toppings for ice cream, cheesecake and more. We never let this delicious chocolate go to waste.

How to thin chocolate fondue

If the fondue is too thick, thin it out with more heavy whipping cream until it’s the consistency that you prefer. Stir until it is well combined and the desired consistency.

Only add a small portion of cream at a time. It is much easier to add more if it is still too thick. If you add too much, it is harder to fix so just add the cream in increments.

Enjoy this delicious treat at parties, gatherings or family movie night. It is so easy to make and turns out fabulous every time without much work.

There is something to special and extravagant about Chocolate Fondue but it is very simple to make. I know you will enjoy this special treat at home. Give it a try for a guaranteed hit with the entire family.
