Ingredients
- Oreo Cookie Crust. I used a premade chocolate cookie crust.
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate. Semi sweet helps to cut down on the sweetness.
- Heavy Whipping Cream. Make sure it is cold.
- Vanilla Extract. Pure vanilla extract is best.
- Powdered Sugar. Sift the powdered sugar before using.
- Whipped Cream. This is for serving. You can also use Homemade Whipped Cream.
- Chocolate Shavings. Use your favorite chocolate for topping.

Variations
- Homemade Pie Crust. We used a store-bought pie to make it really easy. However, you can make a homemade oreo pie crust using a food processor and pie dish. I like homemade Chocolate Wafer Cookies.
- Other varieties of crust. Oreo is fantastic but feel free to try other types of crust. Graham cracker crust is delicious as well.
- Chocolate. Substitute dark chocolate in this pie if you prefer dark. Either option is delicious.
- Toppings. Traditional chocolate shavings look great but you can also use sprinkles, crushed candy, crushed cookies, mini chocolate chips or fruit.
- Espresso Powder. Coffee lovers might like the addition of espresso to the chocolate mixture.
Step By Step Instructions

Step 1. Melt the chocolate. Place the chocolate chips and heavy whipping cream in a microwave safe bowl. Heat in 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the chocolate is fully melted. Then stir in the salt and allow to cool.

Step 2. Beat the whipping cream. In a separate medium bowl, beat the remaining heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract and powdered sugar with an electric mixer. I like to use a stand mixer or hand mixer until stiff peaks form.

Step 3. Combine the whipped cream and chocolate. Carefully fold the whipped cream mixture into the chocolate mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overbeat or the whipped cream may get flat. Spread into chocolate cookie 9-inch crust. Pour the chocolate mousse filling mixture into the Oreo crust. Chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.

Step 4. Serve and enjoy. When serving, top with the whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Storage
Refrigerate the leftovers, covered, for up to 5 days. Make sure to use an airtight container or cover well with plastic wrap in the refrigerator.
FAQs
Feel free to make this in advance for special occasions, parties and more. It can be made up to 2 days in advance. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
This pie is freezer friendly. Just leave the whipped topping off. Wrap the pie in plastic wrap and foil.
Freeze up to 2 months. Allow the pie to thaw in the fridge for 24 hours when ready to serve.
Then top with whipped cream and the chocolate shavings. We do not recommend freezing with the toppings already on.
Another option is to flash freeze the pie on a baking sheet for 2-3 hours then transfer to a freezer bag. This is a good option if you are concerned with the pie sticking to the cover.
Pro Tips
- Chocolate shavings. Easily shave the chocolate using a vegetable peeler.
- Pie Plate. Even if you are using a store bought pie crust, you can still put that in a pie plate. It will make the base sturdier to carry and just look nicer.
- Don’t overheat the chocolate. Be careful that you do not overcook the chocolate or burn it. It must be melted in intervals and stirred to ensure it doe snot burn.
- Good quality chocolate. The chocolate really is the star of the show. Make sure to use good quality chocolate for best results.
- Allow the chocolate to cool. It is important to allow the chocolate mixture to cool before adding the other ingredients.
- Don’t overmix. The chocolate and cream mixture should be mixed until just combined. If you over beat it will make the whipped cream flat.
