Why We Love This Recipe

It’s so easy to make and so decadent. The semi-sweet chocolate chips provide the perfect amount of sweetness. Everyone will enjoy this treat with lots of dippers.

Make it for parties and more.

Ingredients

  • Unsalted Butter – I generally use unsalted butter but salted butter would work too.
  • Cream Cheese – Let it softened at room temperature to make it easier to mix.
  • Sugar and Brown Sugar – I love using both in this recipe.
  • Vanilla Extract – This adds a little sweetness for this delicious dip recipe.
  • Semi-sweet Mini Chocolate Chips – I prefer to use the mini chips for this dip so that you can get some in each bite. If you can’t find the mini ones, the regular ones will work too.

Find the complete list of ingredients at the bottom of the page.

Variations

  • Make without Cream Cheese – If you cannot have cream cheese, you can make this dip with cool whip and powdered sugar instead.
  • Use Peanut Butter – If you love peanut butter as much as we do, try adding ½ cup to this dip to make a peanut butter chocolate chip dessert dip. Peanut Butter will be a fun secret ingredient to add to this recipe.
  • Use any type of Chocolate Chips – Any flavor of chocolate chips would work great in this recipe: dark chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips or white chocolate.

Step By Step Instructions

Butter, cream cheese and sugar combined in a mixing bowl.

Step 1. Mix together the cream cheese, butter and sugar. I prefer to use the mixing bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Beat the softened cream cheese, butter and sugars until combined. This usually takes just a couple of minutes to beat until smooth.

Step 2. Next, add the vanilla and continue mixing. Then stir in the chocolate chips by hand. Place the dip in a serving bowl and serve with graham crackers, pretzels, or fruit.

Serving Suggestions

  • Graham Crackers. You can use honey graham, cinnamon or chocolate.
  • Pretzels- rods or sticks
  • Fresh Fruit – apple slices, strawberries and whatever you like!
  • Vanilla Wafers. Always a favorite!
  • Teddy Grahams. Any flavor you love.
  • Animal Crackers. Regular, chocolate or iced.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator. If stored properly, the dip will last about 5 days.

I prefer to make it a day in advance. It stores perfectly in the refrigerator, and it actually taste even better the next day.

Can You Freeze?

Yes, you can freeze this chocolate chip cookie dough dip. If you serve frozen it could almost be chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.

  • To Freeze: Store prepared dip in an airtight zip lock bag or container. Make sure to label the container with the date. If stored properly the dip will last about 2 months.
  • To Thaw: When you are ready to serve take it out of the freezer and let it come to room temperature. Stir or beat the dip with a hand mixer and serve with your favorite graham crackers.

Pro Tips

  • Softened Ingredients. The dip will be smoother and easier to combine if you use softened butter and cream cheese.
  • Fold in the chocolate. Don’t use an electric mixer to combine the chocolate chips. Fold in by hand.
  • Adjust the sweetness. If you want the dip more or less sweet, adjust the amount of sugar to your liking.
