Variations
- Change Cake Flavor – This is an easy way to adapt the recipe for a new flavor with minimum effort. Some delicious cake mix ideas include: Chocolate, strawberry and lemon.
- White Wine – You can also change the wine in this white wine cake. You can mix it with chardonnay, Pinot Grigio or any kind you prefer.
- Sugar. You can use half white sugar and half brown sugar if you prefer.
- Topping. You can also use Cream Cheese Glaze or Homemade Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe.
Step By Step Instructions
- Step 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a bundt pan. Then set aside the prepared bundt pan for later.

Step 2 – Combine the cake ingredients in a large bowl with a stand mixer or hand mixer until combined and smooth.

Step 3 – Pour the cake batter into the prepared Bundt cake pan Then bake for 45 to 50 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 4 – Use a small saucepan and heat these ingredients. Whisk over medium heat until combined. Then stir in the white wine.

Step 5 – Use a skewer, fork or a toothpick to poke holes all over the top of the cake. Generously pour the wine syrup glaze all over the top of the cake. Allow it to soak into the cake. Cool the cake then remove from pan and place on serving plate.
Expert Tips
- Pour the glaze while the cake is hot. It is important to add the butter glaze frosting over the cake while the cake is still hot. This will ensure it really soaks in the cake.
- Don’t overbake the cake. Oven times can vary so keep an eye on the cake. You do not want to overbake it.
- Serve with fresh fruit and whipped cream. Not only will the cake look gorgeous but it will taste even more amazing.
- Room temperature ingredients. It is best to use room-temperature ingredients for this cake recipe.
- The alcohol in the wine is cooked out while the cake bakes. So, you can serve this cake to anyone.
- Generously grease the pan. Bundt cakes can sometimes be difficult to remove from the pan. Make sure to grease the pan well and get in all the nooks and crannies. This will help immensely.
- Make sure to use a moist yellow cake mix. Any brand is fine but we prefer a moist yellow cake mix.
- Instant pudding is a must. Make sure to grab the correct box of pudding at the grocery store. You will not have the same results unless you use instant pudding mix.
- Dust with powdered sugar. It is totally optional but the cake is so pretty with a dusting of powdered sugar on top.

Storage
Room Temperature: Store the cake in an airtight container for up to 2 days. The glaze will stay soft and slightly gooey.
Refrigerator: Keep in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Bring to room temperature before serving for the best flavor and texture.
Freezing: Crack Cake can be wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw completely at room temperature before serving and drizzle with fresh glaze if desired.
There is a lot of moisture in this cake so be mindful of that. You might want to just go ahead and place in the fridge. See How Long Does Cake Last in the Fridge.
Can You Make This Without Wine?
If you prefer to substitute the wine, you can certainly do so. Some good alternatives include non-alcoholic wine and apple cider. You might also try using white grape juice as well.
However, the wine is completely evaporated while cooking so you can serve this to anyone.

My cake mix is 13.25 oz instead of 15.25 oz due to shrinkflation. Is this going to affect the recipe and the outcome of the cake?
Bill – Some brands are still available in the larger size so try to use those if you can. If not, I think it will still work but I haven’t tested it yet. The batter amount will be smaller so the cooking time would be less. I would start checking it around 40 minutes to see if the cake is done from there. Let me know how it turns out!
