Ingredients for red white and blue puppy chow:

  • Chex Cereal 
  • Creamy Peanut Butter 
  • Vegetable Oil 
  • Red Candy Melts
  • Blue Candy Melts 
  • Powdered Sugar 
  • Gallon Ziplock Bags 
  • Red White and Blue M&M’s 

How to make Memorial Day Puppy Chow:

  • Melt Blue Candy – In a microwave safe bowl, combine blue candy melts, peanut butter and  vegetable oil.  Microwave on high in the bowl and melt for 30 seconds. 
  • Continuing Melting – Stir and cook in 15 second intervals until melted and smooth.

  • Pour Melted Chocolate over cereal – Meanwhile, pour the Chex cereal in a large bowl. Pour the melted peanut butter and candy mixture over the chex mix recipe and quickly stir to coat.

  • Place on baking sheet – Pour onto parchment paper lined cookie sheet and allow to cool.

How to store Patriotic Puppy Chow:

Store in an airtight food storage container for up to a week and enjoy. Ours never lasts that long though because we eat it so quickly.

It is ok out for a day or so but it will keep longer in the fridge and stay moist.

  • 8 cups Chex Cereal divided equally
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter divided equally
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil divided equally
  • 1 cup Red Candy Melts
  • 1 Cup Blue Candy Melts
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar divided equally
  • 2 one gallon ziplock bags
  • 1 1/2 cups red white and blue m&ms

Instructions

  • In a microwave safe bowl, combine the 1 cup of blue candy melts, ¼ cup of peanut butter and ½ tablespoon of vegetable oil. Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Stir and cook in 15 second intervals until melted and smooth.
  • Meanwhile, pour 4 cups of Chex cereal in a large bowl.
  • Pour the melted peanut butter and candy mixture over the cereal and quickly stir to coat.
  • In one of the gallon ziplock bags, pour in 1 cup of the powdered sugar. Then pour the coated cereal into the bag. Seal close and shake to coat the cereal.

  1. I would like to know where you bought your red, white and blue M&Ms. I wanted to do the St. Patrick’s Day Puppy Chow and couldn’t find just green M&Ms. I haven’t looked for the red, white and blue ones yet, but I just bet I can’t find them.

    1. We got them at our local grocery store in the candy aisle. They are usually only available around the 4h of July.

    2. Wal Mart has them not big bag but I bought 5 littles …also have them in minis and peanut butter
