Traditional Oreo Balls are always fun to make and eat! I started thinking about how cute they would be decorated in red, white and blue. It would be an easy no bake dessert recipe for July 4th or Memorial Day.

This recipe has all of the flavor of the classic dessert but with white chocolate and patriotic sprinkles. It will look stunning on baking trays and platters along with Red White and Blue Chocolate Covered Pretzels, Patriotic Whoopie Pies and Red White and Blue Desserts.

Why This Recipe Works

The entire recipe is so simple. If you have made our traditional recipe for Oreo Balls, you know how tasty and easy it is to make. I think you are going to love having this festive version to enjoy for special occasions.

Ingredients

Ingredients to make Patriotic Oreo Balls - cream cheese, oreo cookies, white almond bark, sprinkles.
  • Cream Cheese. It needs to be softened at room temperature so that it will combine easier.
  • Oreo Cookies. Don’t use double stuffed or it will add too much filling.
  • White Almond Bark. You can also use white melting wafers or white chocolate chips.
  • Red, white and blue sprinkles. You can use your favorite patriotic sprinkles.

Variation ideas

  • Sprinkles- You can use any color to make these work for any occasion or Holiday. Try red and green for Christmas, pink and red for Valentine’s Day, pastels for Easter or Spring, and black and orange for Halloween. You get the idea!
  • Chocolate- Dip these in milk chocolate for a change from the white chocolate. You can even drizzle melted chocolate over the balls instead of using sprinkles.
  • Oreo cookies- I’m a big fan of traditional Oreo cookies but it would be fun to try other types to make these Oreo truffles. The ideas are endless- birthday cake, peanut butter, red velvet, golden Oreos, and more! It seems they have a ton of Oreo flavors these days.
  • Toppings. Drizzle melted blue candy melts or red candy melts on top. You can use a small piping bag. Or you can dip entirely in one of these colors and then drizzle white lines of chocolate on top.

Step by Step Instructions

  • Step 1. First, get your baking sheet ready. Line it with parchment paper and set aside.
Crushed oreo cookies in food processor.

Step 2. Second, crush the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs. If you have a food processor, this would be the easiest and fastest way to finely crush the cookies with a few pulses.  If you do not have a food processor, you can also crush the cookies in a ziplock bag with a rolling pin.

Step 3. Next, put the crushed Oreo cookies in a large mixing bowl and add the cream cheese. Combine this mixture of cookie crumbs until everything is well blended.

Step 4. Scoop the mixture into balls. I normally do about 1″ balls using a cookie scoop to quickly make these uniform. After you have scooped all of the cookie mixture into balls, put in the freezer for 30 minutes to chill. I prefer this over the refrigerator.

Step 5. Finally, heat the candy coating in 1-minute intervals using a microwave-safe bowl. Don’t forget to stir in between each interval. Continue until fully melted.

Step 6. Then dip each of the remaining balls into the chocolate to completely cover it. You can use a fork or a toothpick to dip the balls and then remove any excess.

Storage

Store the Oreo balls in the fridge inside an airtight container. You don’t want to leave them out because the chocolate will start to melt.

Pro Tips

  • It will be helpful to have a food processor. It is so handy to crush the Oreo cookies.
  • Cookie Scoop- This is not necessary but it sure is helpful. A cookie scoop makes it so easy to get all of the Oreo balls uniform.
  • Use lollipop sticks in the Oreo balls to make these more like cake pops. So fun and still really easy.
  • Shake any excess chocolate off before placing them on the baking sheet.
