Why is Texas Known For Pecan Pie?

The pecan tree is native to Texas. It is the state tree and prevalent all over the state. Fresh Texas pecans make the best desserts.

Ingredients

Ingredients for pecan pie - pie crust, eggs, corn syrup, vanilla extract, milk, flour, butter, pecans.
  • Pie Crust. Unbaked pie crust.
  • Eggs. Use room temperature large eggs.
  • Light Corn Syrup. This gives the pie filling its delicious texture.
  • Vanilla Extract. I always use pure vanilla extract.
  • Milk. You can use the type of milk you prefer but I use whole milk.
  • All Purpose Flour. Make sure you are using all purpose and not self-rising flour.
  • Butter. The butter needs to be melted.
  • Pecans. This recipe calls for pecan halves.

Pecan Pie cut into slices.

Step 5. Bake the pie. Bake for 45-50 minutes. The pie needs to be set and a knife inserted until the center of the pie comes out clean.  Cool the pie completely on a wire rack and then it’s ready to serve and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Fresh ingredients. The better quality of the ingredients, the better the pie will be. You do not want to use stale pecans or the pie won’t taste as good.
  • Don’t overcook the pie. You want the filling to be set but gooey and not dry. You also do not want the pecans on top to burn.
  • Allow the pie to cool before slicing. You will get clean slices that look pretty and hold up well if you allow it to cool.
  • Cover the pie if it starts to brown. If you notice the pie shell browning too much before the pie has finished cooking, cover it with foil.

Storage

Refrigerate the leftovers for up to 4 days.  You can also freeze the pie. Allow the pie to completely cool and wrap in plastic wrap and foil.

Freeze up to 2 to 3 months. Learn how to freeze pecan pies.
