  • Salted Pretzels. I used twists but you can use the square pretzels.
  • Rolo Candy. You can use other types of chocolate candy. Try Hershey Kisses, M&M’s, Dove Chocolate, Hugs and more.
  • White Chocolate Chips. Use a good quality chocolate.
  • Pecan halves. Try substituting with almonds or walnuts.
  • Sprinkles. Colorful Valentine’s Candy or Sprinkles of Your Choice

The complete ingredient details can be found at the bottom.

Recipe Variations

  • Sprinkles – Change the sprinkles to the holiday you are celebrating.
  • M&M on top –  Use M&M Candies instead of pecan for a fun twist to this Valentine’s Day treat.
  • Peanut Butter. If you love peanut butter, use a mini peanut butter cup in this recipe. The chocolate and peanut butter combination is so tasty.
  • Pretzels – Use mini pretzels instead of the regular size pretzels. You can also try pretzel squares.

How to Make Valentines Day Rolo Pretzels

  • Step 1 – Prepare Oven – First, preheat oven to 275 degrees.
Pretzels topped with chocolate on sheet pan.

Step 2. Prepare a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Then place pretzels on it in a single layer. Put one chocolate covered caramel candy on top of each pretzel.

Nuts added to pretzels and melted white chocolate.

Step 3. Bake in the oven for 3-4 minutes or until chocolate softens. While pretzels are in the oven, melt the white chocolate chips in a microwave safe dish for 20-30 seconds a time. Once out of the oven, press a pecan on top and drizzle the melted chocolate.

Sprinkles added to each pretzel.

Step 4. Sprinkle Valentine’s candy and/or sprinkles on top quickly before the chocolate cools.

Candy added to each pretzel.

Step 5.  Transfer to a cooling rack and cool completely.

Expert Tips

  • Use Chocolate Disks – Melting chocolate disks of any color can be used instead of white chocolate chips.
  • Other Chocolate Caramel Candy – We used Rolos for our candy but you can use any chocolate covered caramel candy you prefer.
  • Salted Pretzels – Be sure not to use unsalted pretzels, the turtles taste much better with the salt. We love the salty sweet combination.
  • Drizzling with White Chocolate – Place the melted white chocolate in a sandwich bag. Cut a corner of the bag then easily drizzle it over the pretzels.
  • Refrigerate – To cool the turtles more quickly, they can be put in the refrigerator for 15-30 minutes.

Storage

Room temperature leftovers should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. They will  last at least 1 week.

Can You Freeze This?

Yes, this pretzel turtle recipe can easily be frozen. Place the pretzels on a baking sheet and flash freeze. This should prevent them from sticking together in the freezer.

Then place the candy in a freezer container up to 2-3 months. You will love having this in the freezer for an easy dessert or snack.
