Why We Love This Recipe

It’s an easy salty treat that anyone can make in minutes. Valentine’s Day Chocolate Covered Pretzels are inexpensive but so festive and cute. You can use any type of pretzel, but we love the large pretzel rods.

Ingredients needed - pretzel rods, pink candy melts, white candy melts, red candy melts, sprinkles

Ingredients

  • Pretzel Rods. The large pretzel rods are the perfect size to decorate for Valentine’s Day. You can use pretzel sticks or pretzel twists but I love these large rods.
  • Candy Melts. You need pink, white and red. Melting wafers are so smooth and melt easily. I like to use Wilton.
  • Toppings. Red and Pink Sprinkles, M&Ms or anything you love.

Valentine Pretzel Rod Tips

  • Completely Melt Chocolate – Make sure the chocolate or candy melts are completely melted before dipping the pretzels rods.
  • Microwave Safe Bowl – When melting the chocolate, make sure to use a microwave safe bowl.
  • Smooth Chocolate – If the melted candy or chocolate is not smooth, add about ½ tsp of vegetable oil. This makes it more smooth as it will coat the pretzels better.
  • Over heating – Make sure that you do not overheat the chocolate or candy melts. This will make it difficult to spread so watch it closely while melting.  You definitely want to make sure to do 30 second intervals. Feel free to also use a double boiler.
  • Use Immediately – Use the melted chocolate or candy melts immediately.  It will harden back so be ready to dip the pretzels once it has been melted.
  • Line Baking Sheet – Cover your cookie sheet in foil to allow the pretzels to dry.  You can also use wax paper or parchment paper as well.
  • Decorating – Allowed a few minutes  before drizzling with the opposite chocolate. This makes sure that they do not mix together on the pretzels.
  • Storing – Make sure that the pretzels are completely dry before moving for storage.

How to Serve Valentine’s Day Pretzel Rods

These pretzel rods are delicious and we make them for every holiday. They are budget friendly and can be served in many different ways.

  • Serve in a Jar – If you are having a holiday party, these pretzel rods would make the perfect table centerpiece. Place them in a jar for a fun and festive look.
  • Charcuterie Boards Make a charcuterie board with some of your favorite Valentines treats. Your kids will love the tradition and these pretzel rods will be beautifully displayed
  • Treat Bags – Wrap them in treat bags tied with ribbon for a fun gift idea for family and friends. They are also great for neighbors or your kids’ parties at school.

Recipe Variations

  • Instead of dipping the pretzels, try drizzling them with chocolate only and decorating with red and pink sprinkles. The kids will love helping.
  • Use mini pretzels twist instead of pretzel rods. Use what you have or can find. Sometimes pretzel rods are hard to find.
  • Try other colors. This recipe is perfect year round and can easily be modified for other holidays and occasions.
  • Dip the pretzels in white chocolate chips, dark chocolate or milk chocolate. Top with different colors of candy melt drizzles or sprinkles.
  • Leftover candy can be used to decorate these pretzel rods. Crushed peppermint or crushed candy bars would be great as a topping.
  • Chocolate chips are delicious sprinkled on these pretzel rods. We like to use the mini chocolate chips.
  • Chocolate is another option. Instead of candy melts, dip into melted chocolate for a richer flavor.
  • Themed sprinkles. Change the sprinkles for other holidays and occasions.
  • Nuts. Sprinkle chopped almonds, pecans or walnuts to the pretzels.

FAQs

How to Store Pink Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods?

Place candy coated pretzel rods in an airtight container at room temperature. If you are keeping them on a cookie tray, make sure to cover with a plastic wrap. This will keep their freshness longer.

How Far in Advance Can you Make Chocolate Covered Pretzels?

As long as you store the pretzels in an airtight container, they can be made up to 2 weeks in advance. This fun and festive treat is perfect to make ahead for all your holiday parties.

Should Chocolate Covered Pretzels be Refrigerated?

You do not have to refrigerate chocolate covered pretzels. Just make sure you cover them properly in an air tight container.

Can you freeze the pretzels?

I don’t recommend placing these in the freezer. The moisture in the freezer will make the pretzels stale. However, if the pretzels are completely covered, they can be frozen and remain fresh.
