What is fried ice cream?

Traditional Fried Ice Cream is scooped into balls, rolled in crushed cereal and fried in hot oil. This air fryer version makes it even easier without the oil or mess of frying.

The outside stays crispy and the inside is creamy and delicious. Air Fryer Ice Cream consists of simple ingredients, but it turns out wonderful.

Ingredients

Ingredients for fried ice cream in the air fryer: ice cream, flour, egg whites, cereal, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, cherries.
  • Vanilla Ice Cream 
  • All Purpose Flour 
  • Large Egg Whites 
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal

For the Toppings (optional)

Substitutions

  • Ice Cream Flavors. Substitute other ice cream flavors for the vanilla. Other ideas include strawberry, chocolate and caramel ice cream.

How to make fried ice cream in air fryer

Step 1. Scoop the ice cream into balls.  Then place on a baking sheet or muffin tin and freeze for at least 1 hour.  The ice cream balls need to be frozen solid.

Step 2. Roll each of the ice cream balls in flour to coat them.  Then place them back into the freezer for 1 hour.

Step 3. Whisk the egg whites until they are foamy.  Place the crushed cereal in a separate shallow bowl. Dip the scoops of ice cream balls into the egg whites and then roll them in the crushed cereal crumbs. Freeze for 3 more hours after adding the cereal coating.

Step 4. Line an air fryer basket with aluminum foil. Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook each of the coated ice cream balls in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes.  Garnish with the chocolate syrup, whipped cream and cherries.

What can you coat the ice cream instead of Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

You can also use Frosted Flakes, Corn Flakes or Rice Krispy Treats. Another idea is to use crushed cookies such as graham crackers, animal crackers and ginger snaps.

Pro Tips

  • Shape the ice cream balls quickly. The warmth from your hand will make the ice cream melt.
  • It’s ok if the ice cream balls aren’t perfect. Once you dip in the crushed cereal, you can continue to shape them. Also, the cereal will hide any imperfections.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 1/2 cup All Purpose Flour
  • 3 Large Egg Whites
  • 3 cups Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal crushed
  • For the Toppings optional:
  • Chocolate Syrup
  • Whipped Cream
  • Maraschino Cherries

Instructions

  • Use an ice cream scoop to scoop the ice cream into approximately 8 size balls.  Place them on a baking sheet or muffin tin and freeze for at least 1 hour.  Until the ice cream balls are frozen solid.
  • Place the flour in a large bowl and roll each of the ice cream balls in the flour to coat them.  Then place them back into the freezer for 1 hour.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until they are foamy.  Place the crushed cereal in a separate shallow bowl.
  • Dip the ice cream balls into the egg whites and then roll them in the crushed cereal to completely cover the ice cream in the crushed cereal.  Then place them back into the muffin tin.
  • Freeze for at least 3 hours until the ice cream balls are frozen hard.
  • Line an air fryer basket with a piece of aluminum.  Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Cook each of the coated ice cream balls in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes.  Continue this process until all of the ice cream is air fried.
  • Then served topped with the chocolate syrup, whipped cream and cherries.  Enjoy!
